No you didn't engage with my question. You claimed I was misrepresenting your position. You could have said, "I didn't say that bailouts are capitalist, here's my position:..." But you didn't, because that was in fact what was implied when you defended the bailouts during my critique of American "capitalism" in the Bernie thread. So You are projecting when you say I don't argue in good faith.

95% of the threads and comments on this board are people bitching about this and that, this and that injustice. Especially women in sports in your case as I recall. ...Not fair ehh? "Quit with the excuses and pull your self up by the bootstraps woman! It's the world we live in!" ...But apparently this topic of meritocracy and capitalism in American threatens you personally, probably your self image of "Success." Thus you talk down the experience of those that have worked just as hard, made all the "Right" decisions and yet have nothing to show for it. Face it, the status quo works for you, you like it.
So are you having issues succeeding in it ?

You two keep trying to personalize the discussion, avoiding my points.

I've told you before I'm doing okay. I will just say that I think the system is rigged and I'd prefer not to play a rigged game.

So heaven is merit based eh? I would have figured that there was not rank up there. Like the notion that we must ascend this spiritual latter in order to get closer to god through reincarnating a zillion times.
Rank and merit aren't the same thing. Merit is worthiness or excellence. Rank implies command over others. In heaven the least are considered the greatest. Merit and rank not being based on earthly, worldly definitions. In orthodoxy those with rank are below those with less rank. A priest serves a lay person, a bishop serves the priest, etc etc.

Holy shit dude. What is wrong with you? Seriously? You did misrepresent what I said just like you did with this entire pathetic post of yours.
There is a 0% chance that you worked as hard as I did or you wouldn't be bitching like a little bitch, and you keep on dismissing everything and everyone while putting words into their mouth to pretend like you have something important to say about anything while claiming others are "talking down your experience". Do you even see the irony or are you just retarded? You're a loser and you always will be when you blame everyone else for your misfortune. You aren't alright, you're full of shit. Astonishing that you're still on about threads from half a year ago. Get the fuck over it and move on, incel.

You have no points. Literally none. You're an idiot if you expect other people to continue to argue with your absolutely on every single level stupid arrogant bs.

I think I must have hit a nerve, you powerful woman you! You keep trying to make it about some personal grievance even though I'm telling you I'm fine. Are you psychic? Do you know where I live, the size of my bank account, the extent of my personal life? I've had more good fortune than I deserve, by far. In religious terms you could say I'm blessed. And my sex life is decent as well, thanks.

PS The Bernie thread was like from a week ago

I’m not personalizing it dude. I’m just curious why you think not playing a rigged game will benefit you more than doing whatever you can to give yourself the advantage so you can live as happy and free of a life as you can.

In the immortal words of Bradley Nowell, “ might as well go out for mine cuz everybody’s going out for theirs”.

I said I'd prefer not to play a rigged game. I didn't say don't do 'whatever you can to give yourself an advantage to live as happy and free of a life as possible'. I think you're reading too much into it.

In other words you’re just commenting on your perception of the situation knowing there is no realistic way you can change it so you may as well go out for yours because everybody else is going out for theirs. 😊

My original critique was big picture and challenged the story that is sold to support the status quo (IE the elite class), that anyone can go out and get rich if only they work hard and persevere. You know, the "American Dream" (Amazing it is actually called a dream).

Bitch Power took issue with that because she has built up an ego story about her uniquely hard work and smarts as the reason for her alleged success, which she won't actually explain, other than "Time invested" and apparently some good luck in the markets. Thus she won't acknowledge that other factors play a part in an individual's success, or lack thereof, that are beyond their control.

All of this is not an attack on the virtues of personal responsibility, hard work, ingenuity and an optimistic outlook. On the contrary, these traits are usually necessary for success, just not sufficient. And furthermore I agree that most people can achieve a reasonable standard of living with hard work and smart decisions. But still, factors beyond one's control, such as genetics, place of birth and childhood environment all play a part.

Plenty of very successful black people from the ghetto, who got very rich without any help from white liberals disagree with you but……

You do realize success can be measured in more ways than money and possessions right?
I'm not independently wealthy in money where I don't have to work, but I consider myself successful and wealthy in life. I got there by investing time and effort into achieving those goals.

Yeah man of course. The debate was originally about the structural factors that enable extreme wealth inequality. My point was that almost universally, the wealthiest people in the country would not be where they are w/out some sort of government involvement. I talked specifically about Elon Musk. Some of you brought up Bernie himself, which is totally fair, although he is in a different league in terms of power and wealth. The conversation devolved because of partisan brain scrambling and ego fragility. But to your point, it would help to define terms.

Sorry. The last sentence or two of your previous post.
The point I’m making is plenty of people who were born and raised in bad situations overcame them and succeeded.
I ain't denying that. I'm saying there is no formula, and others were born and raised in bad situations and didn't, and not necessarily because they didn't try as hard either. The reason why this is offensive is because people naturally want to believe that it was completely their own doing that brought their success. Again, I'm not knocking hard work or success, and I'm not saying that one can't take credit for their own success. I just think the truth of the matter is more nuanced than that, and I suspect most people would admit it if they were honest with themselves.

So kinda like Obama’s “ You didn’t build that” speech ?
