Even though Tom Morello is an anti-American asshat that plays his guitar up too high, impresses other guitar players with his "innovative" one note leads and whammy pedal wankage, has a vibrato technique equivelant to CC Deville, makes Kirk Hammett look like a true guitar hero, and looks like he should be pumping gas at a local gas station (he would be better at that than playing lead guitar), I still like him more than that jackass Eddie Van Halen.

After reading that other thread on here about EVH and his long time guitar tech parting ways, you have to admit that there's just too much evidence pointing to EVH being a total asshole. Everything from tricking DLR and the fans back in the '90s on the MTV award show into thinking there was going to be a reunion to not allowing Michael Anthony back in the band because he's friends with Hagar. Imagine if Michael Anthony and EVH's old guitar tech told the real stories? They're both keeping quiet to be respectful, but you know there are some zinger stories to be told about Eddie's jackassery.

I have no interest AT ALL in seeing this new lineup. I won't call it a reunion, since MA's not with them. I was SUPER happy when I heard DLR was going to tour with them again, then totally letdown when I read that the pudgy little Valerie Bertinelli lookalike Wolfgang was going to be on bass. I'm sorry, but that's stupid.

Hopefully, Wolfgang will pay close attention to how his dad treats people and end up a better person than EVH. We'll see...

Is anyone placing bets on how long this joke of a tour will last? I say 2 months.

ONe thing that doesn't fit the equation is Valerie was on CNN a few weeks ago and she was 100% complimentary about Eddie's "partnership" with her, even after the separation. Now of course she was pitching the weight loss stuff, but she said she always had full support from Eddie on her career, weight loss/gain, and Eddie's relationship with Wolfie. She painted an unusually refreshing outlook on Eddie, albiet there are 1000's of others who would have a different opinion.

Someone ALWAYS comes along and says people are jealous... Well yeah, I am jealous I can't play guitar for a living, have several hits, tens of millions of dollars, all the chicks I want, etc... But that's not the point.

Plus you'd be jealous of any famous guitar player and not just EVH...

I still like EVH's playing better because he did more rhythmically interesting stuff. Morello stretched the boundaries of how we perceive electric guitar and it's role in creating sounds in rock. Morello's style has gotten old for me but EVH's just doesn't. Probably because I was just starting to play guitar when I heard VH1 for the first time and even though the first Rage album floored me, that time stamp had already happened long ago.
I wonder what guitar recording since Eruption on VH1, if any, has had a similar impact on young players starting out. You know, that "Oh my fucking God this is incredible, How the fuck is he doing that, I'm going to listen to it 10 times in a row" moment.

Also I don't care how much of an asshole or fuckup a musician is. I don't have to hang out with them, just listen to their music. If EVH was a sweetheart but didn't play like he does he'd just be another of the many nice guy's on this forum, instead of being the subject of forums.

OK, let's say it's not about being jealous...then, what is the point? Why all of the anger toward someone who has not harmed you directly? I've read interviews were Malmsteen is being a complete shit and I saw a video of Nuno Bettencourt throwing his guitar across the stage at a roady 'cause it wasn't in tune yet I don't see any where near the bitching about them as I see about EVH.

I'm not trying to be a fanboy of EVH. In fact, although I respect him as a player, I've never been a big fan of the band...just not my style of music. It's just that I see SO much hatred directed his way it really makes me wonder why so much is directed his way and not nearly as much elsewhere. No, he didn't. Seriously, he didn't do anything close to that. He played guitar in a couple of fourth rate pop bands and never stretched the boundaries of guitar any farther than Huey Lewis did. At least Huey Lewis made some great pop tunes.
