Cool Deal! I didn't know the custom pickup would get quite that rude sounding to be totally honest! Wonder if my JMP would fit in that thing...lol... It would be HILIAROUS to tote in a headshell that is almost as big as my torso... I am a bit over 6'2" and it would just be a gas!

I'm thinking the head wouldn't look quite so big in front of 6'2". :D

Dangit!!!!!!!! Make it look like that Crate monster that there were pics of last year...lol... Then I would really have to start to work out to lift it up though...

I agree Bob,
For thrash tones I think the Distortion pickup will RULE.
But for overall sound, I personally like the custom better!
I still want that HUGE shell in the pic...lol

Gary

I'm actually thinking that with slightly more top end at the amp, the Custom will be just fine for the thrashin'! Plus, I'm going to drop the Custom in my Mason Bernard which I think will make it sound far better than it does now with the Evo's in it. I've already pulled the pick cover from the Vigier... time to fire up the iron.

I think Doug can make you a GIANT head shell. ;)

You know what they say about guys with giant headshells....
I know I know, I'm just sayin'

That clip was really nice man! I'm diggin' the custom alot on that as well.

Yeah, but I have small feet so it cancels it out.

Alright, here's the D60 through the D412 cab. I dropped the gain on the D60 and used the Bloody Murder OD in front of the amp. By the way, I'm really digging this pedal.

VHT D60/D412 and Bloody Murder OD)
That first Marshall/custom pickup clip sounded so much fuller and nicer that I can't even put it into words.

The voicing is very different, for sure! I should really have used the Bogner cab to record the D60 but my favorite cab with the amp is the D412 so I used it.

One thing is for sure, the boosted JMP with the Vigier awesome! I am *very* pleased with Doug's work on the JMP and forsee me using it a lot more than I used to now that it's in shape.

I really like the Marshall - Custom combo! Sounds killer.

You guys are KILLING ME! What I mean is, the JMP/BM OD/Duncan Custom clip is my favorite too. That's not to say the D60 is going on ebay because it's *certainly* not... but you guys are making me want to do two more clips. One with the D60 and OD into the Celestion cab and another with the D60 and no OD... um, into both cabs. That's three. :)

But, I can't, I must get to writing some thrash. Yes, I must...

Nah Bob, me and RVS are always partial to Marshall tones. The VHT sounds good too. :D

I agree, that VHT clip is nothing to scoff at but dang, the JMP/Custom just has a little "somethin'" that's FLOORING me right now. I was a "Marshall guy" from about 1982 until 1988 or so and I'm remembering why. Me loves me JMP.

Oh, and interesting little tidbit about my JMP... the S/N comes up as a 1981 but inside the amp is handwritten 1984 on the build label. The thing is, I'm almost *certain* I had this amp long before 84, in fact I recorded the first Hirax demo with this amp and that was 94... and I bought the amp used long before that demo. Methinks it's an 81 2203 JMP.

1981 was the last year of the JMP and the first year of the JCM800. I have been using JMP's and 800 type amps since 1984. Every now and then I move away from them and always love them when I come back.

That 1984 on the label probably just says 1981 with some fancy, old English type flourish on the 1 making it look like a 4

O.K., this is what I thought but somebody recently told me the JMP was built after 81. This is definitely an 81.

By the way, I just listened to a random clip on HC to cleanse my palette and I hate to boast, but I think my D60 clip sounds excellent. :D Still, I prefer the JMP/Custom of all the clips.

The D60 clip sounds killer Bob!
The Marshall sounds excellent as well but I prefer the D60 (biased I know and I'm a former Marshall guy)

Doug said something about increasing the mids in the gain on that Marshall...nice work! It sounds great!

I bet if you tried the D60 with that Bogner cab/mic setup I'd like it too...sounds like a great cab, the mic picks it up really well.

I have a Lonestar combo here with a Mesa C90 speaker in it and I can't get it to mic up as nice as it sounds in the room.
After screwing endlessly with mic placements, I'm gonna replace the C90, either with a Gold or a Celestion heritage 65. Speakers that don't mic up well are kind of useless to me for recording/gigging....even though the C90 sounds great to me in the room, I can't capture it on tape.

The D60 sounds great...but when I listen to the Marshall clip right after it, it's like a blanket is being lifted, tons of nice clarity/definition on that Marshall clip...again, I think a lot of what I'm hearing is the cab and mic placement liking each other a lot as well..

JMP -> Custom sounds somewhat better to me than the JMP -> Distortion.
JMP -> Custom and Distortion sound much better to me than the D60 combination.

I think you have a winner with the JMP -> Custom combination.

Yeah the boosted Marshall with the Custom is the best tone to my ears. Seems to be what most of the board thinks to so I'd say you got it right.
