He actually has a place?

I wouldn't send an amp to Mark either...I was just curious how he got it. It would be great if someone would reverse engineer Atomica #008 to see what exactly was done...Maybe Brad/Dave could implement the changes in the new So Cal amps ??? We know of the following : 12 position gain switch on back (instead of 3 position), Gain trim control on front, and MM trannies...that's what we know...what we don't know is were there other unseen changes ? I would bet yes...

Yeah, I agree it would be cool if someone would reverse engineer Atomica #008 and then issue it in the new So Cal amps. But they could of reverse engineered some of Mark's Jose mods for the Cameron Atomica too and not rely on Mark's napkin drawings!!      I do wonder what the Atomica really is based off though and why it did not at least have the dual gain controls? I do like the sound of it though as is and I have my Fortin/Gower Marshall JCM800 to satisfy my modded amp tone needs/desire as I have the Jose diode clipping (two modes) with the two gain knobs for that kind of tone and much more!!!

And that would benefit the owner of that amp how?
IDK, maybe they could pay him a decent sum of money to look at it ? Like a consultation fee or something ? Or free gear in exchange...just thinking out loud.

You just ensured that Mark will never sell you an amp.

Like I could get one anyway ? If I really wanted it I'd have a friend order it under his name if that's the case anyway...there are always work/reach arounds...

The big gamble is will you get it back? I am fairly sure lots of people would love to send him their amps and rightfully so. His mods are considered legendary.

And I'm thinking Brad and Dave may want to avoid anything Cameron related for the rest of their lives? Remember when Bobby Brady gave Greg the "good luck" tiki idol in Hawaii? Cameron Amplification is that tiki idol.

I don't think anyone on the history of gear forums would dispute that the Cameron Atomica was named after the band name stenciled on the vintage Marshall Plexi that Mark and I found from Jose's collection of amps, purchased after he died by Mark's boss.

I don't think anyone would dispute that Cameron amp model amp was named "Atomica" in a smart marketing decision based on my telling of that "famous" story written on countless forums, even though the Cameron Atomica was nothing like the Jose built "Atomica". It's just a cool name period.

And now, I just gave Cameron Amplification their new mascot or addition to their logo. :D

      That is going way back to my early childhood!!!

They've (Brad and Dave) said that the amps will re-appear as So Cal amps and be the same designs as the current amps (Atomica, Old Bitch, and CCV, as well as the lunchbox and attenuator supposedly), so I would think it would behoove them to take a look at an Atomica Mark actually worked on instead of some watered down version he "gave" them...if I were them I'd make it a high priority, just like Brad bought the first prototype CCV, I'm pretty sure that wasn't just to flip...I'd bet it was to have Dave look it over REAL carefully before they plan their next move...my .02 anyway...

They already made a run of CCV's when they were the ones in charge of who would build them. They already made Atomica's and Old Bitch's. I'm not sure what they need to look inside amps for now if they already have built them in the past, unless Mark kept some cards hidden up his sleeve.

And... if Mark Cameron did this re-design to their Atomica when he was no longer a part of their company, it doesn't seem that they would have licensed this current design from him already.

I thought Dave had no interest in building Mark's designs as he has so many of his own. That's like Emeril having to ignore his own recipes and cook someone else's recipes.

Mark made some statements that led people to believe that the amps weren't exactly what he designed, suggesting that he kept cards up his sleeve. I just saw it as a way for Brad and Dave to potentially put the brand (re-named So Cal Amps for the moment) back on track and get around Mark, who is obviously tough to work with, given the drama about him all over the internet. I don't know Mark, but I like what I hear whenever I hear a clip of something he touched...from a Marshall to a Mig to a Standell to a CCV to a Ceriatone. They just sound great. I have a Brad era Atomica and CCV, and people have been on both sides of the CCV issue (some say the pre Brad amps sound better, and vice versa), so it would be a way to settle the debate once and for all without involving Mark in any way...

Mark has made lots of statements. What better way to discredit those designs but to call them napkin scribbles even if they aren't? That makes it seem like what he has up his sleeve is better and those guys have inferior designs.

Well, mark's statements combined with people's saying pre/post Brad amps are better/worse leads to a LOT of speculation at the very least...Your own story about the real Atomica casts some doubt about what the production Atomicas really are (or aren't).

I don't think my story on the actual Atomica had anything to do with the Cameron Amplification Atomica amp. I'm pretty sure they just used it because it is a really cool name. There couldn't have been any attempt at replicating the real "Atomica" amp with the production version. The real "Atomica" was an extremely basic Marshall circuit with a very slight mod to it. The Cameron Atomica is a beast. Nothing alike at all. I don't think it was ever intended to be.

If you want something like what the real Atomica from the story was like, I'd guess you hunt down an early Jose mod from Mark. This would be before they were differentiated with HG and LG Jose names. It just would have been the LG version. No one would have been happy with that. Not enough gain for most people.

Seems like the same story different thread...

Makes my life seem boring.

+1 I had dave modify my marshall 1959 slp with the atomica mod from the production models and it sounds fantastic.. much different than his BE HBE designs... no lower mid emphasis and much more aggressive. It is a fantastic amp and I would buy a socal atomica if they decide to make them again without hesitation. In contrast I had a real Cameron modded slp with the high gain low gain jose and six position rotary on the back and it didn't sound that great. I sold it to Lugo and he sold it off quick too...
