I think brad just bought the prototype back that mark put together prior to production... there is a video of him playing it and it sounds like his amp. If the SO/Cal amp is based on this amp how far off could it be? I think the string articulation difference is probably the result of using mercury magnetics instead of those inexpensive classic tone transformers. The mercury trannys can make the amp sound and feel a hell of a lot different... trust me! anyway... just a thought

I think he bought it to flip. I think it was listed at $2K and it's on his reverb site for $3.5K. Plus, that prototype was the way Mark designed the main boards, which is a pain in the ass to manufacture. I'm sure they are trying to alter the design so that manufacturing can be streamlined. That's what George was working on when that relationship ended.

So the new SoCal Amps will not be produced by George ? Who makes the Friedman amps for them ?

Oh... well that's a disappointment!

I think they are made in egnator's usa shop in California along with 65amps... I'm not sure how many people are wiring the amps up

Will Mercury sell those trannys to anyone ? Or only the OEM ? How do you order them ? Call Mercury and say I need a Power and Output trans and a choke for a King era CCV or Atomica ?
They will not sell any manufacturers approved transformers. You would need to have Brad or Rob get it for you.
I think Dave freidman commented before that the mercury transformers used in the CCv weren't anything special ordered and are available off the shelf so that means u could order them I would think. The old bitch and atomica were shipped with the cheaper classic tone trannies, though u could replace them with mercury if you wanted to.

There is nothing wrong with the cheaper classic tone trannies. I wonder what trannies they used? Heyboer?

I disagree. What's wrong with them is exacty what you say "Cheaper" I have had them in a few amps. They sound ok but they are made cheaply which is why they only cost sixty bucks. The PT that was in my brand new Helios had mechanical buzz very loudly. The legs on the Classic Tone are cheap as bend very easily. You can bend the OT with ease. My Helios arrived with the OT bent over and when I shipped it to my buyer it arrived with it bent even after I packed bubble wrap tightly around it.

Oh I did not know they were that cheap. I was talking about the Atomica tranny, which I think is a Heyboer and is probably also cheap? Does Bogner use these type of trannys in all of there amps or does the XTC have better/more durable ones?

No heyboer , i was told that old bitch and atomica has classic tone transformers. I don't believe other bogners come with classictone or at least they didn't use to.

Friedman uses all three (Classic Tone, Heyboer, and MM) in the Dirty Shirley I think (I'm positive about the first 2, just not the MMs). I believe the Atomica and Old Bitch were designed for MMs, but got the Classic Tones as a cost cutting measure. When I have the funds my Atomica is getting MMs.
Splawn uses Heyboer in all their amps and they aren't cheap trannys by any means...but they're not in the Cameron amps.

Oh I didn't know that. Well that figures that they went the cheap route on the Atomica and Old Bitch!!

I'm guessing here...Mark was kind of known for using/liking MMs, so it was a surprise to see Classic Tones in the amps, and rocknchippy says his Atomica sounds way better with the MMs and tweaks by Mark. I can't get the tweaks, but I CAN get the MMs...

^ from where and from who ??? Cameron's FB page is silent...

Well I think the sound of the amp is great as is and do not look to change out the Classic Tones for a MM. I am sure the MM will make the amp sound different but not necessarily better, but the tweaks to the amp rocknchippy's Atomica #08 would make the amp sound different even depending on ones preference without the MM. So the what I am saying is Mark modding that amp is what make it sound better and just putting a MM in it would not drastically improve the sound of the amp. I know Jerry @ FJA mods would do the MM change out and even tweek the circuit closer to Cameron Jose mods.

He said 2014 Ocean...that's right now...so how did he get a Cameron Ocean from this year if Mark is MIA and he's in Denmark of all places ??? Shit is baffling !

Yep, it is, but it does not matter to me since I will never send an amp to Mark.
