Worst comparison ever probably lol. The RI does sound good BUT it’s noisy and it feels cheap AF. Knobs and switches feel like BS. But it does sound good. However, for me, the ++ kills even the OG + for metal tones. EXPLODING sound and feel. I think Mesa screwed up BIGTIME not having a ++ mode.

Sorry for the iPhone clip, sorry for the riff choice. Didn’t feel like 6-10 takes to mush out MOP. Too tipsy to play fast riffs tonight lol.

I can envision running them at the same time. RI for clarity and the ++ for the saturation. Could be deadly.

Yeah in your clip at least it does smoke it easily, but somehow in Hellzington's clip they sounded very similar. Which version IIC++ was it? Simul or Pentode? Is your C++ switchable to + mode to do a more apples to apples comparison or maybe use your IIC+ if not?

It seems in all the Reissue clips I've heard so far there's this slight nasal or bloated quality in the midrange even when scooped on the GEQ. Seems like it stops it from fully getting that classic dense metallic sound of the OG (I don't mean Metallica, but a metallic sound and attack)

Mine is not switchable. It’s an HRG. I have always read that that version for metal rhythm is the best. I have owned a lot of amps and that is the one.

Yeah that also makes it less apples to apples with the reissue being a simul, but I also have and prefer the HRG version. I find it sounds more open, raw, gritty and big, but I guess the tighter, faster and silkier way of the simul is nice too

That's how I've been hearing it too. Reminds me of the MKV where it has those nasal mids you can't scoop out even when 750 is bottomed out. Its weird because the MKVII isn't like that so why not model the GEQ off of that?

That's a good point. The Mark 7 was different in that way. I went in fully expecting it to be boxy when I tried it, so that was a nice surprise. I remember I also had to set it's treble knob lower than other marks

I don't get why they can't at least match these parts 100% right even if they understandably don't nail things like the feel, 3D, liquidity, or other subtleties, at least get the bigger picture parts dead on

@Tone Monster here's an ask. I assume you used the same settings on both for this clip..? Assuming so- if you leave the OG as is, then make this shift to the settings of the RI, does it catch up?

- Turn presence up to 7 or 8
- Reduce 6600 to balance the top end back out

On all the other modern Marks, ramping the presence way up really helps to make it more organic like the older ones. Also seems to remove some of the nasal mid hump.

So I let my wife listen to the clip. It was completely blind, and she didn’t know which amp was what. Her biggest take away from the whole clip was the first one sounded muffled.

Not sure which is which, and I’m listening on phone speakers. The second one sounds much brighter in the upper mids, the first amp darker overall.

so is Mesa offering a C++ upgrade on the RI? 😍

doing a good job of protecting that investment, lol. Great clip
