Was literally thinking "Hmm... reminds me of EVs. Maybe I just like Marks." Sweet.

I think the squealing guy is setting the amp way beyond what he actually needs for saturation. Plus he’s admittedly barely cracking the Master because he’s in a home where it can’t be loud to keep the clean channel down. He’s trying to use an amp that was definitely designed to be turned the fuck up and played in a studio or stage environment. All the bedroom players out there who think this amp is for them and care about channel switching or the clean channel at all might want to invest in an attenuator so they can get the Master volume up and avoid settings that make it problematic.

Exactly.

On every OG C+ I owned, gain that high was unusable. Super messy/undefined. The gain at 4-5 was plenty; hit it with a slight boost and it's over the top but still fun to play.
Frontline's clip sounds great to me.

Now that’s just badass. You don’t see EVMs ripping tones like that very often. Killer gear setup dude the amp rips with some scooped speakers.

I bet it sounds amazing through non vented T75’s to take out some of those dominant mids the reissue has.

As far as the instability goes…

I told Jeremy I thought the amp was unstable many weeks ago and texted him about it. I heard it in recordings between notes or other sounds. I also sent a message to a few people here as well - they know who they are.

IMO a problem exists with their new board layout, a defective ceramic cap batch, lack of shielding from the input to the grid of the first gain stage, or components/wiring/traces of later stages are too close to components/wiring/traces of previous stages. Any combination of these or any single one is capable of causing this.

Can people start posting closeup gut shots of these? I really want to get my hands on one but not from a playing standpoint but rather to see what is fucked up if anything or whether a component is defective.

I am so sick of anyone playing Metallica riffs 😂

You think Mesa will offer to fix the issue if people bring the amp in?

Mesa would have owned it and revisioned the board or would likely have started RMA’s. Gibson won’t do a damn thing about it if it doesn’t involve a lawsuit or making them money. Unfortunately it is what it is. New board layouts by the inexperienced. I’m guilty of running into this with PTP style mod work I do so it doesn’t discriminate - if you’re working with high gain you’ve ran into this before.

So my tone with this amp was pretty bright right out the box setting it up without listening just with my eyes. I attribute it to the pickups in the guitar which were the Duncan Full Shred. Those things can be very bright. I just pulled the deep pot and that helped. Plus I had one of the bright pots pulled out.

Hey guys, got the amp very late today. About 5 o’clock. Haven’t had a ton of time to play around with it. I did a basic AB comparison video, but wasn’t really satisfied with the results. So I didn’t publish it. But I’ll make another one tomorrow that I think will be better when I approach it with fresh ears.

Here are my basic takeaways:

They have similar amounts of gain, but the OG has more. Mine also has the gain boost function which definitely makes it more.

The feel is very different. The reissue is much more stiff my OG is much more saturated and easier to play under the fingers.

The reissue definitely sounds anemic with the input gain and lead gain at seven or less.

The treble on the OG is just much more pleasing for some reason

The graphic EQ are very different. The reissue actually has a much wider range than the OG. If you’re looking for an ultra scooped sound, the reissue is actually better for that.

I like bright tones. Your demo sounded great, bro!
