Wait a minute… I’ve never heard “amp break in” once in my life, is this really a thing g now all of a sudden?? Lol
You know, I kinda thought it was BS too but when I was speaking with Brian Carstens I asked him about this. In his manual for the Grace it says that the amp will break in over the first 40 hours or so of playtime. I was kind of skeptical but he insisted it was a thing. He said anytime he delivers an amp to Billy Corgan he runs it for 50 hours first to break it in. 🤷‍♂️

Another thought, I wouldn't be suprised if they were throwing 4 of all the same color code 6L6 in here even though it's a Simul amp. It remains to be seen if they kept the C+ bias setup or if they went super cold like the modern offerings, but in either case it's possible there are power tubes that are not exactly in the sweet spot. If / when I get one that'll be first order of business to test.

For the guys who have one, what color codes did they ship in the Class A and the Class A/B slots? Are you all getting STR445s?
Mine has Red STR445s

It could very well be a thing, I’ve just never once heard the term “amp break in” or anyone say I’m gonna wait for a new amp to wear in till two hours ago in this thread. Someone now needs to buy a new amp, record a di track, record a clip brand new, leave the amp on for a few days strait then do another di clip to get to the bottom of this lol

OMG if I had a dollar for every time I've seen this happen.

Guy 1- "I do this for a living, have tons of experience, this is what I've observed, I'm not trying to sell you something, so take it or leave it."

Guy 2- "You're an idiot, I've read everything online & have done this a couple times, you're sooo wrong, so I'm going to shout your perspective down & prop my perspective up!"

SMH..

Ok thanks. With the OGs, RED is great for the Class A slots and sometimes YEL will work too, depends on the amp.

For the Class A/B slots though RED will be pretty cold. GRN is generally where you want to be, though I have had ones that were running hotter & needed YEL.

GRY & BLU would generally be too hot for every II I've tested, though GRY will work in the A/B slots in s MkIII.

Yes.

I don't buy many new amps. A few 5153s over the last 10 yrs, but didn't keep them long to experience break in. But, the Naylor SD60 I ordered a few yrs back, when I got it, sounded just like the 1995 version I had, but the feel wasn't there...the OG had a 'sticky' kind of feel that was cool. But, after 6 months or so that same feel was there. So, in that case it took 6 months of running the amp nearly every day for a few hrs for that feel to appear as I remembered it in the OG Naylor from 95.

well im excited, cause that means a handful of my amps are not close to sounding their best yet. maybe ill turn and leave a few of them on for a few days :m17:

I still like the OG more. I find it more musical, less surgical. Component composition really does make or break a difference here - custom amps I build take this into consideration but corporate folk can’t do so on the scale they aim for.

All in all it’s a great amp and creates a gig worthy tone so you’re not taking your pride and joy OG out, but I still would prefer the original. That’s just me though. I’d still pay the premium they fetch - I hear it.

The Reissue sounds much better for band mix, the OG will be burried with those settings. Maybe it is the reason they did not appear on many recordings... :devilish:
