This is awesome, huge than you @Ola Englund for putting these together. The RI/OG comparo checks right out to the experience I had when @frontline205 brought his RI over & we recorded the demo in my garage. Between that, your demos & @hellzington 's I really hope we can put the launch behind us and call the RI the win that it is. Subtleties aside, thinking back to the 8 C+ I've owned and reflecting on the RI I played I agree that any differences you hear in the RI fall within what differences you might hear an any two OGs if you take the time to dial them in. They're all a little different.

That said, the shit talking and mega threads were fun!

...and Merry Christmas!!!

My amp squeals!! Meanwhile Ola has Input and Treble on 10…lol
I guess he got a good one 🤔

Lol, years from now, people will be selling Mark IIC+ Reissues based on whether they squeal or not.

Just checking: Are there any others out in the wild that do not squeal at extreme settings? Does anyone else have one?

Thanks for the demos and comparisons! Will be interesting to hear the JP2C vs reissue!

Definitely more upper mids on the RI vs the OG. Which I prefer....the GEQ having more range makes sense as a way to counter the mid bump of the RI...Gonna have to pull the trigger on this at some point.

The mids on the DRG RI are very OG SRG like. As the power section gets bigger in the OGs, those mids translate to more natural scoop. So, if you're comparing the RI to all OGs, it's right in there. Same story with the push.

That's awesome, but please post a phone clip playing some Metallica riffs for an in-the-room feel!

J/K. Please don't.

On a serious notes, man, what a killer amp.

The no-G versions are faster and have better pure liquid tone, they just don’t have the EQ shaping capability. Many of the no-EQ ones I’ve had weren’t even boxy, they were killer as-is for not-metal.

…And obviously aren’t as coveted.

Example-

That doesn't sound bad but the shootouts I've seen between a non EQ with a 3rd party graphic in the loop vs. a GEQ model, worked in the GEQ model's favor. No idea if the separate Boogie 5 band would solve that or if it comes down to having the EQ in the circuit where it is.

That sounds great! I actually prefer that...

You are correct. If you compare a G model to a no-G model with a GEQ or PEQ in the loop, the factory G amp will sound better unless maybe you're using a vintage Boss GE-10. The Boogie 5 band pedal like all the others aren't using big voltage like the OG and the Boss, and they just aren't as good. Kind of processed sounding.

However, if you take a G amp with the G off vs. a no-G amp, and dial in an appropriate tone, most of the time (hey they're all a little different) the no-G amp will win. For example. the DR C+ I had had this liquid sustain that on certain notes would literally never fade out. I could hold the note for an hour if I wanted to. Best Mark lead tone I've had.

In fact, one of my measures for a Mark II or III is to see how it sounds with the G off. Many of them are boxy which is no good. Many of them however are killer, and after playing for 5 minutes you'd never miss the G. These are the good ones.
