Sons of bitches!! They’re dead to me!!!
Return to senderThey mailed it in years ago. This is the next logical step.
I agree that they sound amazing in that video. I have seen shows where the sound was phenomenal but unfortunately I had two shows that just didn't have great sound. I do blame the venues a bit because both were arenas for sporting events and just a wash of noise. That video posted sounds insane, I’d love to hear any of you sound that great AS A BAND live, I’ll wait

Metallica is my favorite band and I've seen them twice, once on the Black Album tour and in 2018 or 2019. I was planning on seeing them in October of 1986 in Germany but we all know what happened there.
Both times I saw them, it was a letdown compared to some of the other shows I've seen. The Black Album show was in an echoey chamber called the Hampton Coliseum and could barely make out the songs. The last time I saw them "Hardwired..." started and when the inteo stopped and the music started, it was so low on the volume, I could talk to my friend without yelling or leaning in. The sound got better but just was missing something.
My benchmark has been my first hard rock show in 1988 and still hasn't been outdone. Cinderella opening for ACDC and me and my best friend were against the railing, front row center. Deaf for a few days, sweating like pigs and arm's length from Angus. Is still the top.
They can sound good. I just personally feel the 81s sound better for Metallica. There is a “splat” vibe instead of immediate.I have the new Het Set in an old LP. They sound killer. Best sounding EMG's I've tried. YMMV
And that’s totally fair, no doubt about it! If they are guilty of anything it definitely can be inconsistency. But the, “ their tone isn’t as good because…..modeling” is not a thing, and never has been. Also, a lot of their shows by the time we hear them on YouTube etc are HEAVILY edited as well, but I don’t really think this video posted is at all. Sounds fucking killer to me for what it is. Bass tones are huge too.

Crap mids, no chunk, no balls
But hey, why sound like this when you can save so much on transport costs?
I have a few guitars with the Het set...I have to say that the classic 81 in the bridge still does the best job for these types of tones. the Het bridge is overly thick in the bottom end and presents as bloated at times. They can sound good. The digital guys just can’t resist coming in and setting the record straight for us. It’s like low hanging fruit. Please someone show me Metallica having great digital tones over their tube rigs. Or the best live examples of great digital tones.
