We have no helmet law in CT.

Some guy a decade or so ago was a huge proponent of no helmets and eventually he got the legislature to repeal the helmet law.

A little while later the guy died of head injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Irony?

Do you like the government making you wear a seatbelt, not letting you choose whether or not your customers can smoke in your bar/restaurant, not allowing adults to buy alcohol on Sunday, etc...? Didn't think so. I don't think any of that stuff is the government's business.

So it's not really about "looking cool." You seem to like taking jabs at the Harley folks, because you like sport bikes. To my surprise, most of the Harley guys now seem to accept sport bike guys, but not vice-versa.

I ride a very modified sport bike, dirt bikes, and sometimes borrow my dads Kawasaki Vulcan so I ride a pretty wide range of types. While I do wear my helmet pretty much everytime I'm on a bike, I think it's a personal choice and I'm extremely anti helmet/seatbelt laws.

I wear a seatbelt by choice, stock bar on Saturday, dont smoke, and like you worked for the government for some years ;) None of those rules bother me one bit....well the no booze on Sundays sucks during the Memorial / Labor day weekends.

Jabs? I hit both sides of the no helmut thing equal as all in all it is two wheels and both sides need to stick together in order to maintain numbers. Any hardcore rider respects the other be it a racer or serious Sturgus follower. Rode for 15 or so years with Harley guys and was always accepted at the Red Dog Saloon here in Middlefield before hanging the helmut.

I take helmuts seriously as everday I drive by this $15,000 sign on RT691 that was placed after one of my childhood friends sisters had her brains so scrambled that she drools on herself all day. Big ass multi-arrow thing to tell people of an on-coming curve.

Helmuts save lives and it is something I subscribe to. Hell, I wear a full flak jacket when I snowmobile due to the machine I drive and the way I ride it. When I had my CR250 I had full protection on and it saved my ass several times.

Sorry both some of my close friends are die hard build your own ride Harley riders so no not jabbing at Harley riders. ;)

I agree it should be a personnel choice, rather odd it is the law to be in a GMC Yukon XL and have to wear a seatbelt while there is nota helmut law

Man all this talk I want another Yammie R1

Gotcha. And it's not really about the helmet. It's about the government trying to control things they shouldn't.

But anyway, I've been on my bike more with a helmet than without, so I'm not against wearing one. I don't know how anyone could be against that! LOL... Common sense will tell anyone it's safer, right? But it should be a choice I think.

I disagree. The government has a right to ensure that the general population is protected. Personally I feel that everyone should wear a seatbelt/helmet/not talk on their cell phone just out of sheer common sense, but because that is obviously not the case I think the government should have the right to enforce things that legitimately save lives. Seatbelts laws are like speed limits. This is not a question of the government "infringing on the rights of the population" but merely a way to protect people.

Other people are affected when you choose not to wear a seatbelt.

All the police resources used up in cleaning your bloody mess of remains off the street, for one.

I'm shocked. I can't believe anyone thinks it's okay for the government to stick their nose in your personal business. That's amazing to me.

The government shouldn't, but when it affects everyone else, then it should.

I don't want people driving without seatbelts. If they get launched out of the car in a head-on and launch themselves straight into my head, I'll be dead, and pissed.

If they smash into a tree and kill themselves and use cops, fire, and EMS personnel that could be better used on people who are actually intelligent enough to use basic safety precautions instead of saying "I GOT RIGHTS I'M GONNA DO WHAT I WANT BLARGGGG", I'll be pissed and out that much more money.

If they don't have insurance and they require serious medical help, I'll be pissed because that's my money too.

No offense man, but I think those are all REALLY lame reasons. I mean, do you actually think someone will be ejected from their car and hurt YOU because they didn't wear a seatbelt? LOL! You have a better chance of being abducted by aliens.

No, actually, you don't. It's 99.999% improbable, but it happens.

If you think people without seatbelts costing other people money is a lame reason, well, I don't know how else to present the argument to you.

I think people should be able to do whatever they want as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of other people. In other words, I should be able to wear a seatbelt or choose not too. I'm the only one affected by it. Nobody else is safer because I'm forced to wear a seatbelt.

I agree. If someone chooses not to wear their seat belt, fine. It really doesn't affect my safety at all if the other guy isn't wearing his. I think its a good idea to wear the seat belt, and I do. If someone doesn't want to wear theirs, more power to 'em.

i didn't have a windshield for my bike and had to wear a helmet with full face protection to keep the damn bugs/rocks from hitting me. They hurt bad enough when hitting me in the neck
