I wear a seatbelt by choice, stock bar on Saturday, dont smoke, and like you worked for the government for some years ;) None of those rules bother me one bit....well the no booze on Sundays sucks during the Memorial / Labor day weekends.

Jabs? I hit both sides of the no helmut thing equal as all in all it is two wheels and both sides need to stick together in order to maintain numbers. Any hardcore rider respects the other be it a racer or serious Sturgus follower. Rode for 15 or so years with Harley guys and was always accepted at the Red Dog Saloon here in Middlefield before hanging the helmut.

I take helmuts seriously as everday I drive by this $15,000 sign on RT691 that was placed after one of my childhood friends sisters had her brains so scrambled that she drools on herself all day. Big ass multi-arrow thing to tell people of an on-coming curve.

Helmuts save lives and it is something I subscribe to. Hell, I wear a full flak jacket when I snowmobile due to the machine I drive and the way I ride it. When I had my CR250 I had full protection on and it saved my ass several times.

Sorry both some of my close friends are die hard build your own ride Harley riders so no not jabbing at Harley riders. ;)

Gotcha. And it's not really about the helmet. It's about the government trying to control things they shouldn't.

But anyway, I've been on my bike more with a helmet than without, so I'm not against wearing one. I don't know how anyone could be against that! LOL... Common sense will tell anyone it's safer, right? But it should be a choice I think.

Its cool, just something I take serious, sometimes to the dork extreme :D

I disagree. The government has a right to ensure that the general population is protected. Personally I feel that everyone should wear a seatbelt/helmet/not talk on their cell phone just out of sheer common sense, but because that is obviously not the case I think the government should have the right to enforce things that legitimately save lives. Seatbelts laws are like speed limits. This is not a question of the government "infringing on the rights of the population" but merely a way to protect people.

Remember when the government made all american auto manufactures create the airbag? Well after a dozen or so babies had their heads blown off it was appearent that you could not sue GM, Ford, or Dodge due to the fact that they were forced to rush the airbag to save lives. People's arms were blown up, dogs killed...........and guess what? You could not sue the government for your loss due to their rush to save lives.

The government makes these rules to protect the dumb that are too stupid to protect themselves and the rest of us get caught up in it.

BY the way it has been proven again and again regarding cars....speed does not kill. Dumb kills.

It's ok to pass laws that infringe on the rights of others, as long as it doesn't infringe on any of MY rights, right??

1) Love the moniker

2) I HATE helmet lawes, even though I always wore a helmet when I rode, atleast after I met my (now) wife, as she is a neuro-recovery nurse, lotsa bike horror stories there :aww:

You don't look like a hair metaller at all, what's up with that?

So it's not really about "looking cool." You seem to like taking jabs at the Harley folks, because you like sport bikes. To my surprise, most of the Harley guys now seem to accept sport bike guys, but not vice-versa.

I dont know Chris, I cant compare seatbelt/Helmet laws with the other stuff you mentioned. I love both sportbikes and Harleys/cruisers and given the choice, theres NO WAY Id ride without a helmet. For me, its quieter and keeps the damn wind out of my eyes which I hate. I dont have a problem with legislation that pretty much is doing more than looking out for you in the end... On top of it all, youre a dad and you owe it to your family to take the necessary precautions IMO. Im not trying to be judgemental, just a realist. Its an unfortunate fact that accidents are a very real part of riding a motorcycle and due to the nature of the beast, you should protect yourself as much as possible IMO.

That said, I loved riding in the summer with shorts or jeans and a tshirt LOL!!! I never had a problem with the Helmet but ask me to wear a jacket when its hot and Im saying hell no!!!

As for the pic, I dont know about the Mexican look but you could definitely do a walk on part on American Choppper...

Kage,

All of the reasons you mentioned are personal preference and I agree with them. I'm talking about the government taking away your ability to make those decisions on your own.

I was going to mention what you said up above and youre absolutely right, its personal preference and theres no way I can argue against that. However, I think that in regards to helmet laws, its an instance where there needs to be some kind of legislation even if it does step on a few toes because it serves the greater good IMO..

Man, I can't believe you or anyone else thinks it's okay for the government to make these types of decisions for people! That floors me! I just don't feel that way AT ALL. Totally opposite opinion. :)

As a rule a Chris, I dont think its OK, just this particular instance. For example, All kinds of stuff gets kicked up from other cars when youre riding, Ive lost count of the amount of times that Ive gotten nailed by a rock or stone that was kicked up and smashed into my face shield or helmet( Badly Cracked shields or Signicant damage to the helmet) and I was so thankful that I was wearing protection. If I wasnt, theres no doubt that I would have dropped the bike and screwed myself up OR I would have lost control and caused an accident.

My point is that While I truly understand where youre coming from, you have to understand that it can extend that youre personal preference has the potential to affect other people beyond yourself. Its like the Smoking thing, theres concrete eveidence that Second hand smoke can harm others and its something you have to consider IMO

I don't care about helmets or not, or Jap bikes or Harleys, but I'm totally with you on this, Chris. The passive mentality towards our freedoms today just really gets me ticked off. Helmets today, guns tomorrow, the one-world govt. the next day. Just lay down and let the govt. do you. Be a good citizen, just accept this like all the other sheeple. Just lay still as I shoot all 13146461 of you in a row, no one stand up and challenge me or God forbid use Violence to stop the massacre......
Right. The Constitution and Bill of Rights that our parents and grandparents and their forebearers fought for and died for means nothing. Don't resist. Just accept the National ID card. It's for our own security after all. What we need is more speed cameras, more surveilance, it's for our own good. Who cares about States' Rights? We need a National Helmet Law enforced by the Federal Government. We need the BATFEMH - Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, Explosives, and Motorcycle Helmets..... Aaaaarrrrgh!!

Really, the government does not have the right to do much of anything...it is supposed to be the will of the people...personal responsibility and so on...

Notice that I didn't say people should be allowed to smoke in bars. I said bar owners should be allowed to decide whether or not their establishments are smoking or non-smoking. There's a huge difference there.

Ehhhhhhhh, I don't think we could ever possibly agree on this. Probably time for me to drop it. :)
Yep, I did notice that and sure, we can drop it, no problems here

Better to look like a NASCAR driver than Rob Halford before going out on a date

Yeah....some of the Racer boys take it too far as well with the racing leathers but form follows function Jeff ;) I wore a black racing jacket with carbonfiber elbows with no sticker thingies.
