Agree, on the mids. My MC 1 100w has the C transformer and I have played an MC 2 100w with the V transformer. Mids were similar, but the MC 1 seems to have extended top end and low end over the MC 2.
Interesting, many would probability have guessed the opposite. I haven’t tried an MC2, just an MC

Yup. My buddy who owns the MC 2 noticed it as well.

Midrange wise, both have the more Hiwatt like midrange, or "hollow" mids as I have seen you describe them.

I would be curious to see what you would think of the w800 model. That one has alot of upper mid kerrang. If I were being nitpicky, comparing it to my father's early 70's Superlead, the old Marshall thickens up in a really musical way in the midrange when you crank it, where as the Wizards don't really. Pretty dang close for a modern amp though!

Stoked you are loving it! Have you biamped it with your 2C+ yet?

Ya, that punch that physically hits you with Wizards at volume is definitely something else.
I'm gonna throw some A B soon when I have more free time!

Yeah I find them to be somewhere in between a Hiwatt and Marshall in midrange character. In the clips I do hear that extra uppermid aggression of the w800’s, but seems like in the mids below that area still more hollow in the same way as other wizards

For a modern amp they are definitely among the most raw I’ve tried only rivaled IME by Naylor’s in that area and slightly outdone by Alessandro’s. I don’t think it’s age or a vintage thing vs ‘70’s Superleads (I have a 1972 SL 100 myself), especially since vintage Hiwatt’s are more hollow than wizards. I think it’s just a different sound wizards are going for vs Marshall’s that are both great in different ways. Maybe like oranges vs grapefruits lol

Makes sense since the MC I had with C’s and MTL I had with V’s were both similarly neutral/smooth in the mids. The Hell Razor KT150 I tried sounded more aggressive than both, whatever it uses or if it’s even from its transformers or not

I'd say there's more variation between years depending on what tweaks he makes to the amps. I had a 2018 MC2 KT150 that the mids were very flat and neutral sounding. I never really liked that amp and sold it fairly quickly. The 21 KT150 MC2 I had was much better, more aggressive in the mids.

My 2019 MTL had different mids compared to my 22 MTL KT150 as well. I noticed this with my 2016 MTL vs a newer MTL mk2 as well...always prefered my 2016. All these comparisons, the amps had the same V transformers or the KT transformers.

I know Rick has made some updates to the Hell Razor as well, based on some user feed back.

The Hell Razor KT150 I tried still had overall a more flat/neutral midrange to my ears like the other Wizards I had, but just seemed way more impressive than the 2016 MTL EL34 100 and 1996 MC EL34 100 I had

Well would you look at that. Finally there's somebody on the internet willing to spend the money on a Wizard who is ALSO willing to spend $99 on an actual microphone for the cab instead of just hitting record on a cell phone and throwing it somewhere across the room and declaring that "nah cell phone recordings are fine it's just that... Wizards are like... hard to record, maaaan." :D

Sounds good! Turns out they do sound good recorded if you give half-a-damn about actually recording them.

I’ve heard both agressive or too smooth for the hell razor. But Rick be tinkering
So far so good! It feels so nice - the clarity is there, the punch is there, the definition is amazing and of course it's so damn dynamic!
That oomph when playing loud tho... Man...!
Wizards really truly are something special

The Hell Razor can be tweaked for a lot of different sounds with its 3 different gain controls

I think he said he used IR rather an actual mic fwiw, but either way a good sounding clip of it

I’m pretty excited . I have an idea if I want to do with it . What’s cool with a Rick is he’s always tweaking it . 3 gains is killer man

Will post some more clips soon!

Just for fun, this is a Quad Cortex capture I did - Gain + Saturation 6 - Again I am using my Mesa Boogie 412 IR
