I bought this bass yesterday at Sam Ash for $399 plus tax. I walk it to my car and before I get it there appears to be some buckle or key markings on the back contour lap-resting area. I walk back into the store and they offered to order in a new one and I'd have to wait, or they'd take 50 bucks off right there. I took the 50 bucks off. I just tracked my first song with it and I'm happy with it (I know next to nothing about basses and/or recording them).

I did try a few before I picked this one. A used Squier jazz bass for $475 which was over my price range; and a couple of Michael Kelly bass which were just blah. The squire sounded way better as far as the low B note definition and resonance. The MK ones were muddy and duddy. Then I picked up the Sterling and it felt and sounded just as good as the Squier, so I took it!

I have the 4 string version and I really enjoy it. I tried a few at sam ash over the weekend. I tried a Jackson j32 bass and really enjoyed it. Doesn't suit me as my Spector or sterling but I may grab one at some point for some thrash.

Oddly enough I figured out what was up with EZ bass screwing up songs in B standard. I looked at the midi notes and it was showing B(-1) instead of B0 so basically it was lower than EZbass went. Still prefer to play my own bass lines though. Check out scottsbasslesson's to learn how to play q bit more like a bassist vs being a guitarist who is playing bass. Great site.

Congrats!

Stingrays are awesome, especially for heavier stuff. The humbucker gives them a depth and punch that other basses don't really have. They also tend to have more narrow fretboard width and string distance, which tends to make them feel a lot more natural to guitar players than other basses.

Congrats! I've been wanting to buy one of these to record with also. Thats a heck of a deal too

Badass dude, congrats!

I’ve got one as well and absolutely live it!

Sold the first one only cause I didn’t like the color but then rebought same bass model in black!

Is that a roasted maple board? I think it looks really good on that

Yup, certain colors get the roasted maple fretboards but I think (I could be wrong) all colors get roasted maple necks

Yeah because I was looking back forth between yours and mine and mine definitely isn't roasted. But the back of the neck on mine looks light in color just as the fretboard.

Hmm strange, maybe they changed it up again, I’ve heard they are pretty uptight about options and lines change without much notice. Either way it’s a killer bass man, stingrays just hit home runs as far as I’m concerned!
