...he and I's rhythm playing is nearly identical that wouldn't make that big a difference IMO.

My bad. Stock JVMs suck then...

And George, your hate of V30s/bogners/etc. is well known, but come on man there has been tons of great music/records made with that gear! You have to like some of those records?
Do great tones = great music? Why should that even matter?

I didnt think you had to like the tones to like the music etc

I noticed you left out great tone in your sentence!

I like music for musical context...it's either good or bad.

Lol, I agree that you don't need to like the tones to like the music, but you didn't answer the question, either ;)

That said my MK IV is going on the market soon, I like it alot but it aint no marshall.

Neither is the JVM.

Maybe you should revisit Ralph's JVM clip, everything at noon and just threw a mic in front ;)

Killertone also has some great JVM clips

tough economy? i think james hit it right on the head with the dollar signs of endorsement deals. i dunno if i could do it though, hopefully his ears havent drifted to JVMs and alchy's for real from using diezels?

Different tastes I guess because I hate the 5150, cannot stand that amp.

In the end he is in the biz to make money, plain and simple.

I never had the urge to go out and buy a 5150, but damm, some engineers get the thing to sound good. It's been used on a TON of records.

No doubt they are getting great results..............STUDIO results

I remember when the JVM was the amp to have around here. What happened there?

He's had a VH4 in the past, perhaps he just wants something different. FWIW, he probably sounds great with that rig, as much as it upsets internet tonelordz. Furthermore, I'm starting to wonder how much difference you could perceive in a live environment between this rig and his last. Even more so after seeing a boutique amp builder be fooled into thinking a cheap solidstate practice amp was one of his own creations.
Ive had both and kept the Alchemist..I think its funny a guy with a 5150ll is talkin shit

I think its sounds fine and I own an xtc and an alchemist and a AN FJA modded Vl1002 and Lee jackson modded vl1002.
Amonst 20 other amps in the last year and I think they sound great I was just scared of the engineering so I sold it..

Last time I share someone's touring rack around here

You should do it more often, it conveniently exposes the people whose opinions I know to ignore going forward.

I'm not sure but I would think anything these guys used could be modded to sound great. I've heard so many great sounds on tour and then you hear the production amps and they lack bigtime. I don't know what's up with Slipknot but those Rivera's sound God awful IMO but the records sound great. $$$
Considering he used those horrible old Peavey Classics or whatever way back.....I've never seen anyone get those tones out of those amps.

Woah...now we're ripping on Peavey Classics? Come on guys, everyone settle down. :lame: :codeak: :boxer: :bash:
But seriously, I've always loved Peavey Classics. They sound pretty good for an inexpensive amp, especially with pedals.
JVM's and Alchy's are not that bad either...but there are much better Marshalls and Bogners.

Not a amp on this thread brought up that I would not be able to use live and get a tone that well work for me .... including the Peavey and Crate .

All most all of my sound comes from my hands ..... I do have my preferences but any tube amp well do.

Ah yes, but the 5150II is modded. Therefore it's superior.

And there's nothing wrong with the Peavey Classic series. They're not gonna do 80s metal or whatever without a boost but they're not designed with that in mind. It shouldn't be hard to get a more than usable tone from a Classic however.

You must not be old enough to remember this series.....

Doesn't matter, i played Boogies, so did Ralph, and i sounded like me, Ralph sounded like Ralph. I owned the Mark V longer than the JVM if that means anything.

What do JVM's cost these days? $2000? You'd figure they could do better than those Fisher Price tone knobs

That kinda looks like a yukk sounding rig. JVM and Alchemists. Yikes! Anything for the endorsement dollar. I could be wrong but I've used both those amps, not for me.

to be honest his tone these days is a bit to mudball like for me. Just sounds like mush in the past 2 or 3 tours. with that said Neal has had some great tones over the years and some of the slickest melodic playing ever recorded
