Pantera Reunion on Beato

Read his book. I can honestly tell you that his book is exactly who he is. Once you read it, send me a pm and we will laugh our asses off.

That book completely ruined my outlook on that guy. Absolutely a ‘better to keep your mouth shut than to let everyone know you’re an idiot” situation. Dude just talked shit about everyone in that book, Dime was just a drunk redneck, Vinnie was a loser who couldn’t get chicks and Phil was just an asshole junkie, but thank god Rex was there to create Pantera and hold everything together all those years, just doin’ a little bit of blow and having some beers occasionally.

It’s why I fast forwarded every time he started talking in that Beato vid. Fuckin Rick asks the question about a resurgence of metal and of course Rex starts in with “Well I was seeing it right before we came back and now….”, Rick wasn’t fuckin’ crediting this tribute to the revival of metal ya fuckin’ egotistical dipshit, thankfully Charlie rescued him by answering the question as Rick intended it. Dude’s a fuckin’ blowhard.

Also, it’s amazing that nearly a year into it, *every* discussion about this lineup turns into a “It’s not Pantera” when from the very start, the ONLY time it’s been called a ”reunion” by anyone has been the media/YouTubers. Charlie and Zakk have been more than outspoken about it being a tribute, though I’m sure Rex would be more than happy to call it whatever the fuck he could if it’d inflate his ego or bank account any more.

Still got my tix for Aug 2024, it’s not stopping any time soon. I’m all for the live shows and while I don’t think they’re dumb enough to release new music under the Pantera name, that’d be my hard stop point where I go from “I got no problems with this” to “Fuck that shit, not fuckin’ cool”

Definitely a Tribute band. I did see them in Arlington, show was pretty good, for a tribute band.

The author, Mark Eglinton, is a real dick and total joke. I posted a thread on the book when it came out on a metal forum I admin'd on and brought-up just how ridiculous parts of the book were - like the whole 'The 'Tude" chapter...I guess Eglinton was stalking the internet for reviews or talk on the book and he came across the thread...he went through the trouble of signing-up for the forum and then began ranting and raving on what a shit forum it and its members were and just all of this bullshit in defense of the book, himself, and Rex lmmfao I never banned him just to keep the free entertainment going but unfortunately he never posted after a day or so of replying to comments.

I watched a bit, but quickly had enough of them talking over each other and Zakk's rambling..."King Edward this and Saint Rhoads that and Father Bowcott and on and on..." I get it, but damn man, take it down a few notches. That said, I do appreciate his enthusiasm, I'm just grumpy today I guess.

It doesn't matter to me what they call it. Metallica pull in a huge cross-section of people who aren't just the hardcore metalheads that followed them in the '80s, and may not be as familiar with Pantera as we are. Being an opener for Metallica isn't the worst way to expose their music to people who might not be that familiar with Pantera. Eventually the tour will be over, but hopefully it'll result in more people discovering the Abbott bros' catalog of music.

I don't know, I'm going to sound like Sunshine and Rainbows but I like the current Pantera thing for what it is, knowing nothing can replicate what they were.

Zakk and Charlie were really close with the brothers and loved them and crushed when Dime died (like most of us). Most agree that the drama got out of hand when Pantera broke up and a tragedy they never were together again.

I just look at this so different. You have two friends getting to learn and play what their buddies played with two surviving members. It is a tribute and that is it. No way anyone could replace Dime. To be able to hear those songs again and just reflect, is pretty cool IMO. I can see why some don't like it.

Bogus. This isn’t pantera. Dime is an ESSENTIAL piece of puzzle.

I concur. I see nothing wrong with what they're doing, and I would bet that Vinnie and Dime would approve of this and be happy its being done. AS you said, it IS a tribute to Pantera, and it certainly seems that Zakk and Charlie are being careful with it and giving it the respect that is due.

I got no problem with them playing the material but I wonder if figuring out who to play guitar went like this….
“Hey, who are going to get to replicate one of the most brutal, direct and cutting guitar tones in popular metal?”
“I know, let’s get the guy with one of the softest “heavy” tones of all time and I think we can get him to throw in some chorus for free!”

I like in the interview how Charlie was all about replicating the Vinnie experience, even setting up the drums in a way alien to him, to get him into the zone of Vinnie’s style. Meanwhile Zakk is like, why bother, every player is going to sound like themselves no matter what they do yada yada so I’ll just use the same rig I’ve used for 35 years. That guy is so locked in to his sound, style and look, it’s like unfrozen caveman lawyer but a musician.

Zakk just seems like the nicest guy but god damn, I’m not sure he’s had a new creative thought since 1998.
