Pantera Reunion on Beato

The cash grab aspect of it goes away for me when there are far more people enjoying the shows than there are people making money off it. I don’t give a single fuck if musicians I grew up being inspired and influenced by are making money off doing their jobs and making me and millions of others happy in the process, seems unreasonable to look at it any differently, but YMMV.

I was a bit bummed when Zakk wasn’t doing the solos initially, but it seems he’s been putting some effort into them as time has gone on-

That right there is perfect, IMO. It’s clearly Zakk, but he’s still playing the solo Dime wrote. Haven’t watched any full shows recently to see what the other’s sound like, but that’s a definite improvement from last year.

And Vinnie said HE’D never get back onstage with Phil. Never said a tribute couldn’t happen at all. :dunno: Seeing guys like Grady and Sterling support it says a lot, IMO. Those dudes were IN it with Vinnie and Dime and they’ve been nothing but supportive.

That clip makes me glad I didn't go see them when they were here.

i have no problems with cash grabs, if you have something people are willing to pay for by all means make all the money you can. im sure literally hundreds of people are being employed by them doing a worldwide tour, bands as big as them are literally economy stimulators which is great. Pantera is my favorite band, i wish i was pumped on this and wanted to throw my cash into the pot.. but lets just call it what it is which isnt this overly romanticized love story of a "tribute" they are trying to push and people are buying into, if these dudes were making equal money with their other bands we all know this wouldnt be a thing.

i cant get myself to click, im so curious but ive managed to not hear one second of this band and now im trying keep the streak going :ROFLMAO:

I loved it . Brutal album

I also have Glenn Tipton's Baptism of Fire from right around that same time that I actually thought had a few pretty decent jams on it too; another one I haven't listened to in prolly 20 years

The only thing I got from the interview is that even though Zakk is a hell of a player, he is border line retarded...
As much as I like some of the Beato interviews, this one sucked.
An interview with Charlie alone would have been great!

Thanks for reminding me about that album. Haven't listened to it in a long time. Listening now. It smokes!

The list of musicians on the record is pretty impressive.

Here's my problem with this shit. First off, I'll say I do think a tribute is a nice thing to do. My thing is, this is being billed as IF it is Pantera. Clearly it is not and never could be. Also, the videos I've seen when Phil is on stage, he has asked the audience how many of them have seen Pantera back in the day? Then he asks how many of them that this is their first time seeing "us", "us" being Pantera. Blasphemy from Phillip. It is impossible to "see" Pantera in 2023 because Pantera ceased to exist on December 8, 2004 and any hope for a semi-reunion ceased to exist on June 22, 2018. Furthermore, Phillip and Rex have played together COUNTLESS times since Pantera's breakup. They have also played Pantera songs since then. Maybe not a full set of them, sure, but they still have. So what makes this "reunion" special? Is it because it is under the Pantera name? Makes no sense. IF Vinnie were still alive, THEN, and only THEN could I see this being called a reunion of sorts because they actually WOULD be reuniting (at least partially) considering Vinnie didn't play with Rex or Phil since Pantera's breakup.

Nailed it. This is like DLR and Michael Anthony touring as VH without Dime and Vin. GTFO…
Call it something else, anything but Pantera…

Out of curiosity, has anyone actually heard Phil, Rex, Charlie or Zakk call this a “reunion” and not a tribute?

(I already know the answer to this and fully expect it to fall on deaf ears because it’s more fun to just shit on things in 2023)

I don't believe I have heard the band, nor anyone associated with the band call it a reunion?

I figure its mainly nitwits in forums saying that...:loco:

And any form of media that knows they’ll drive up clicks with people just wanting to say “It’s not a reunion!”

Weird time in the world. Everyone knows what a reunion is. This is not that.

I’m not going to post and pretend that this is an enormous outrage or travesty but to me it is silly to continue to go around and call this a reunion instead of a tribute.

Great lead singers such as Phil do have a huge impact on a band’s sound no doubt, (i.e Van Halen/Roth) but in the case of Pantera, it was the Abbots that contributed the most to their sound, no offense to Rex. You’ll never duplicate that.
+2

This is how I feel too. I know Zakk and Dime were best friends but I’d never consider a reunion a reunion without all original members. It’s a tribute and a respect to great players. Honestly it’s closer to a cover band of pantera songs and only a step above that into a tribute band because there’s one original member in the band.

Now I will say what’s impressive is the caliber of talent it takes to play covers of original pantera.

And personally Phil is a part of pantera too…it gives it the feel I always expected. Pantera will never be pantera without the original brothers and Phil on vocals.

Respect the fallen - RIP Abbott brothers.

This is how they're saying it:

They could have went with Pantera Inc, Friends of Pantera, etc, but nope. Even without changing the name they could have changed the logo to reflect this is a new version but again, nope.

I find it kinda disappointing to see "Pantera" on Beato's channel. Also they're so old, they should've moved on by now and play something more related to their current selves.
