Proof there is a God

It's not the entire point of attending church. It is one of many reasons to go to Church.

Additional reasons and there are other reasons as well can be found here for starters:

Yes I suppose you are right but it is still the most core component of the church service in eastern christianity. Everything is centered on communion with Christ, as it should be. As is biblical. In protestantism everything hinges on the sermon. That's way off base.

For years the Church had attendees living in ignorance. They didn't even preach in their own language. They put on a big show based around rituals and mumbling incantations. How are you to understand the good news if you can't follow the word of God. Instead by ritual and mumbo jumbo from a priest waving an incense burner. You have to be joking. Jesus was a teacher. If the Church is not a teacher then it's not following Jesus.

You are levying charges against Roman Catholicism. I am talking about orthodoxy and early church history which you have repeatedly demonstrated you know nothing about. We have a sermon every sunday, it's just not the core of the service like holy communion.

Is the sermon a homily? or is it from the Bible? If it's a homily, I don't need some empty priests' thoughts on life the universe and everything. I can get people's opinions (which are like arseholes) at places like Rig-talk.

Picking up chicks is usually not one of them. Although occasionally it can bear fruit.
If you are a Christian, it's better to find a Christian wife or husband at Church. It gives you a better chance (no guarantees) than being married to non-Christian that might turn into a Lesbian or a radical Marxist activist five years later.

2 Corinthians 6:14

14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

The hour long sermon in a protestant church is all about the pastors thoughts cause he never shuts up. An orthodox sermon is based on scriptural readings and usually lasts five to fifteen minutes.

I've managed ok.

That's the beauty of orthodoxy. It is the earliest christianity. It is pre-denominational, meaning it existed before sects of christianity broke away and took various names. It is eastern and is completely foreign to the protestant mind.

My theology was all screwed up prior to finding orthodoxy because the protestant world is the spawn of satan and therefore full of confusion. I have no problem with someone judging my beliefs, go for it, you're fighting Christ's church so that isn't a winning battle. I might judge your beliefs, but I'm not judging not you for holding them. We all start from someplace and are seeking that peace that is found in the orthodox church. Yes, all orgs have their problems but we aren't going to church for social hour we are going to make confession and commune with Christ. It's about the inner life and that is something missing from western christianity.

You've just demonstrated my point about organized religion; no matter which one it is. You went straight to I'm right, you're wrong, my religion is best. Couldn't even be bothered to ask anything about what I believe. You straight up judge others' faith calling it the spawn of satan because it's slightly different than what you believe.

Like i said before, I don't blame the individual for acting like this, I attribute it to the organized religion's teachings and indoctrination. This is why I don't want anything to do with them. There's no room for anything else. It's unfortunate religion drags people down to this level.

No one is right and no one is wrong when it comes to faith. We just are and there's room for all.

Well that's where you are wrong because the sermon in any church I attend is straight from a Bible passage and is all about the passage. Generally it will work through an entire book over consecutive weeks.

Except your "all paths lead to the Lord" argument you seem to be fronting is demonstrably wrong so I didn't really want to engage you on it. Is there one true path, or is there many true paths to the Lord? If you say "one" then there has to be an identifiable true christian faith. If you say "many" then that actually means "any" so murderers, rapists, pedophiles, and satanists are also on their "path" to the Lord. There is either one truth or there is no truth.

I have sat through enough long winded protestant sermons to know you are giving me a best case scenario. Everything is outward in protestantism from the "sunday best" attire to the preacher in business clothes to the rock band on the stage to the endless study of scripture without ever finding the truth about it to yelling at people on the street. It's all an outward focus because you have missed the great inner focus of holy communion; the inner life.

You say you aren't a Christian though so I gather it doesn't matter. It's talking about Christians being married to other Christians. At any rate the verse is advice to follow. It doesn't always work out that way.
Well I suppose if I was a Christian I might want to be married to another Christian. I mean I would never marry a liberal. I might bend one over for a minute, but then I'm out.

OK. One of the most famous Bible verses.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

The Bible says there is only one God and Jesus is the only way to be reconciled to God. That's the problem with the "many paths" philosophy. You can hold the philosophy and that's fine but it's incompatible with the Bible and what it says so to anyone who believes the Bible it's wrong. Not because personally I hate other religions or the people that follow them per se... However, I don't like other religions because I believe they don't offer hope of salvation.

I'm not trying to prove anyone right or wrong, not even you. I'm just speaking on why I don't care for organized religion and a small hint of my beliefs.

You just can't help but to interject that your religion is the only correct one and continually try to discredit everyone else. I don't think you could even listen to someone else's beliefs without doing this.

So yeah, I'm not conversing with you on this anymore. It's pointless to continue to do so with someone who can't close their mouth and open their ears.

You sound like you are actually the judgmental one in the room. You enter a discussion and then don't like what was said and now you are leaving cause I asked you some tough questions. You were welcome to state your beliefs, and did to some degree, and are now being tested on them (it's a debate).

This is where people go wrong. It's not us saying it's the only correct one. It's the Bible itself. So of course we say it's the only correct one. It's not like we are getting personal about it. I agree with VonBonfire though in the sense that there is only one truth. Not many truths. The many truths thing is what's called rationalism although rationalism used with its theological meaning.

It doesn't help to brow beat people and accuse them of things but yes it's a debate.

I don't recall brow beating anyone. I only analyzed his "all paths lead to god" suggestion for what it was, a falsehood. He's mad that I called everything outside orthodoxy a satanic heresy because actually that's what it is. I guess my language turned him off but since he wasn't much of a part of the conversation I wasn't parsing my words for his sake at the time.
