Thank you, I appreciate the vote of confidence - I guess the grass is always greener on the other side right?
No matter how hard we try, we always end up sounding like ourselves when we play leads lol
At least for me, part of why I always have the "snake-y" and rhythmically fluid thing going on, is because my mentor/longtime teacher ingrained it in my brain that when you're doing a guitar solo, especially with metal or hard rock, you aren't "bound" to the tempo like when you're playing a riff
In fact, just like you can add tension and relieve tension with notes resolving into the root, fifth, or third, you can use "out of the box" rhythms as a way to color your solo - as long as it has internally consistent rhythm, and you don't overdo it, sometimes it can be more expressive or express an idea or emotion better. Sort of how sometimes Randy Rhoads will "unsync" his right and left hands a bit to get more of that out of control feeling, it's the same idea except unsyncing from the rhythm specifically when you're "emoting" or doing more vocal lines
I used to do tons of exercises to add weird subdivisions and stuff like that to get my brain used to a more "holistic" way of doing things, leadwise
I appreciate the kind words, anyhow, and really enjoyed your playing man!
Dude that’s the best part about these backing track throwdowns! We get to hear everyone’s stylistic or musical choices and it’s just as much fun as looking at each others gear imo.
I love that everyone has a slightly different way of doing stuff and I get to listen and pick and choose what I want to try on my own!
lol the funniest thing about the 180 bpm for me is all I wanted to do was a slightly off tempo boomer bend lick I came up with and I couldn’t get it absolutely anywhere near the speed of the track . Sounded killer at like 150/160 bpm but that just crushed my spirit even more when I couldn’t get it higher
