Some Uber Ultra action

My question is - did they fix the crap EQ from the last Rev Blue/Purple because dialing in the amp was a pain in the ass with only a few usable EQ settings and the Presence, Mid, and Treble knobs seemed like they were mislabeled because they were so dependent on the other knobs the amp was a mess to get a quality tone out of. If the EQ is simple where each knob does what it's supposed to I'll probably try one. Great demo and tones Blake.

Thanks man. There are a LOT of ways to set this amp up, so there may be a particular configuration that makes the TMB controls act like the old versions. But with the way I run it- there’s nothing wonky going on- each knob does what you’d expect.

It’s the first Bogner I’ve owned or played where I’m actually taming the high end.

The real hidden gem on this amp may be the Uber mode on channel 1. Ultra on channel 2 is also a standout- so much gain but still so articulate. I use Uber on channel 2 the least by far, and that is probably closest to the old versions.

It was too long ago to really be able to give any detailed insight. But I feel confident in saying this is tighter and more aggressive. The power section is very stout. This is not the amp for someone wanting that Bogner sag, the Ultra is tuned for aggression.

Huge transformers

Definitely sounds alot less compressed than older Uber clips I've listened to. Your clips sound alot more raw and aggressive/tighter exactly as you described. Maybe Riehhhold backed out some gain and some of the low frequency emphasis like Mesa did with the Badlander but I like the sound of this Uber over the older ones.

agreed

Just got the call from my Sweetwater rep this morning: my Uber Ultra EL34 arrived and is shipping out today!

He said this was the last one from the initial batch, more on the way in another couple of months. So if you're on the list, hang tight.

Hopefully he didn’t mention any pictures being taken before it being shipped out. Haha

@Bxlxaxkxe hey man, would you be able to explain a bit about the "Doom / Focus / Bright" switch on channel 2? I'm just wondering what that switch might do on a technical level.

Most Bogners have a "Bright2 / Neutral / Bright1" switch where Bright1 is essentially a treble bleed circuit on the Gain knob, and Bright2 is a similar treble bleed circuit on the Gain knob, but the frequency is shifted down to allow more mids to pass through along with the treble.

Is the "Doom / Focus / Bright" switch just the classic Bogner 3-way Bright switch with fancier names, or does it feel like there's something else going on there?

Good for you. Bad for me.

That’s a good question man- I didn’t really consider that may be what’s happening. It’s certainly possible. The difference between doom and focus sounds like what you’re describing with bright 1 - more mids and therefor tighter low end. “Bright” to me just sounds like a straight up big bright cap that I’m used to hearing (like on a marshall). Wish my technical knowledge was stronger than what it is, but you may be right?

Its definitely less compressed. The metamorph control really allows you to get the feel you want and the sweep on it/all the rest of the pots are all really usable. I'm pretty jaded on new amps but this thing is really impressive

How much gain does this amp have? It seems to come on a lot less quickly than the other Ubers do.

Ugh. I’m thinking of selling my Twin Jet to get one of these. Am I crazy?

That depends on what mode you are in . Only the Ultra mode has insane amounts of gain but when set low it’s a very usable mode. Now that I have had more time with mine the Ultra mode on channel two might be my favorite but I don’t go above 10 o’clock on the gain. The Uber mode on channel two is great too , I would set the gain higher on that mode. It will always be a little less aggressive than the ultra mode though.

i just down my deposit for a Uber ultra... but having a dilemma to go with El34 or 6l6? which will accentuate the Bogner Uber amp design more?

Safest bet is standard version. Also happens to be the most versatile version considering it can be all 34, all 88, or a pair of each
for the 100watt version ....it does have the two bias pot for each pair of tubes? aka the Diezel Herbert?
