I have the snax ultra feed the EVH5153 mini in 4cm.
There is a bit of tone and dynamic suck but it is not to much.
The hiss is easaly killed with the snax limiter and so is the volume jump of green and blue.
No need for those humbusters.
MFC is changing channels within the presets.
Works and sounds good enough for my ears and work.

So yeah I like it and there is NO NEED for FX8.
The Snax Ultra is more flexible and cheaper and better anyway.
Because of shorter cables (less hiss, humm and radio breznjev) and lower beer spilling hazzard!

ha! googled snax ultra and got

So I got to compare a 5150iii to the original block letter and I hear the similarities its wierd because the EVH is aesome and it always delivers but the original Peavey Version was not far off. It was not a true A/B comparison because it was the EVH combo verses the peavey on a new marshall cabs and Marshall cabs are horrible anymore in my opinion

Red channel through my Peavey 5150 4x12 is very similar to the Peavey 5150 head. Minus the massive bass of course. I don't realize how much gain I was using on the red channel until I a/b'd the old 5150 head and the new red channel thought the 4x12. It was meant to be a speaker comparison. I was really surprised how close the two amps sound. The 5150 III does everything the old 5150 does and more. And does it better. I've got the 5150 III 2x12 combo. Only thing I miss is the bass from the Peavey head. Which every sound guy in the world hates anyway.

I also had a volume drop and hiss/hum from my combo. Volume kept dropping then going back up. Think it lost some gain when it happened too. Had a loud hum. Even with nothing plugged in. Same problem across all three channels. I was thinking maybe phase inverter tube? Problem went away. Been playing it about two weeks without it happening again. Probably two to three days a week and one to two hours at least each time. Tues I left it in stand by for about an hour and a half while the plumber was here hoping it would be really warmed up and the problem would return. Nope. Has not happened again. Hopefully it's just a preamp tube!

I have the Stealth and the 50 watt. I like to roll back the gain on the blue channel and smack it with a Rocket Fuel Aldrich pedal.

Yes I know it makes no sense but it sounds so good I cant stop doing it.

I gig with the EVH 4x12 and EVH 2x12. Also sounds great through my Splawn 2x12 with sb25s.

How big is the difference in Gain between them?
I mean, when you have the 50w with the Blue at noon where do you set the Gain on the Stealth Blue?

Good question. They are close. Ill have to AB them properly and report back. The Blue channel on the Stealth was worth the purchase price for me ( I flipped a year old 5153 standard to pay for half of it or so). I really dig the individual resonance controls also.

And the 50 watt sounds great low volume and fits on the floor passenger seat so its a great backup. Need to try the line out and headphone stuff yet.
Have you tested them A/B ?

Ok..........I don't know if anyone else has ever mentioned this issue or even HAD the issue. THIS IS WEIRD!!! The other day, I was jamming away on my 5153 (50watt) and when I went to adjust the Presence, I noticed that the knob had a small, hairline crack in it that wasn't there before. I have never fiddled with taking the knobs off/on or anything, so this was kind of strange as I do not recall anything hitting the amp and I know I hadn't bumped into it or anything. The amp has never left my home, so I know it didn't happen in moving it. Just then I glance over at the Channel 3 Volume knob and notice that IT TO is cracked! So I go down the line and EVERY SINGLE KNOB ON THE AMP FACE IS CRACKED!!!!!!! Like somebody took a screwdriver and overtightened the set screw on every single knob!!!!!!! These WERE NOT CRACKED WHEN I GOT IT!!! The cracks are VERY noticeable and I would have seen them before. WTF?????!!!!!!

Has ANYONE else experienced this??

my only problem with this amp is (meaning the 100w version) that it sometimes goes all drunkard and when you switch it on, your effects loop is disengaged, although the fx loop button is not lit. then when i press it it lights up and the fx loop switches off   .. i always make sure to plug in the FS before I even fire it up from the mains, so that's not the problems.. it's just.. one of those days.. gotta switch off all and then restart heh..

I haven't experienced the cracked knob issue and this is the first I've heard of it. Is it possible that there's been a drastic temp change recently that might have caused the buttons to swell and then crack as you've described?

I love my 50 watt. I have both a 1960 and a carvin 212 with carvin's version of the V30's in it.

The 50 watt sounds so much better through my carvin than the marshall.
Just an overall rounder sound. The 1960 cab is bright to me, although when cranked it calms down a bit.

How are those Carvin GT12's with the 5150 III mini?
Just got the mini head and was considering a carvin 2x12 for it.
I can get it loaded with V 30 for a additional cost from carvin

Sorry for the late response here. I love my 212 carvin, in its snakeskin glory of course !! Lol
I've had the cab almost 2 years now. IMO, very well made and the sound is big, warm and round. Punchy but not over bassy. My favorite cab I've owned. With the 50 watt, it is my go to setup. My 412 is neglected big time.

I lucked out on it because I got it for $269.00 shipped. Now I think it's gone up a bit. Actually I think all the carvin stuff went up.

Highly recommend one.

BUT for what they are now going for, there might be a good rival in the same $ range?

And to answer your question about how is the carvin with the G12's?
Mine has the V30's loaded. It's killer !!
Mind you, it's carvin brand V30's just to clarify.

I have absolutely no desire to switch out these speakers. I've taken this cab to band practice many times with probably close to 100 of band time, loud volume playing on it.

Again... Highly recommend.

i figured out that problem btw... its in the footswitch, i found a capacitor that is not on long enough to do a full reset on the footswitch.. i think it was c5 i changed it to 3.3 micro farad and made the reset become longer than 175ms.. its like 2 seconds now and no more issues.. .

My last 5150 III combo had 5 knobs with a crack in them. Someone had told me it was a combination of material used and being overtightened at the factory? They sent me all new ones to replace as pointed out.

Has anyone A/B tested these to the Archon I feel like the Archon is a clone of this amp or something the feel and vibe is similiar

Jammed again last nite with my drummer. The amp I own at this moment just slays in everything we played.
Probably the most powerful amp I have owned/heard. FTW.... :D

Just fixing this post. :D Please note, we have ALL heard this many times before from mailman.

I had one of the first run 5153 heads. It went on tour with a bro, and developed the dreaded channel switching/loop switching/foot pedal issue that was commonly seen back then. Great sounding amp with loads of gain.

Yeah my 50 watter had this issue, I didn't actually notice it - someone else did. I called support, they sent me a set of new knobs.... I never even put 'em on tbh. It's such a minor issue.

Soooo a few weeks ago I plugged into a 5150 iii with emgs and holy crap I thought it sounded awesome with passives actives make it a whole different experience if only I could try a stealth
