Jammed again last nite with my drummer. The Stealth just slays in everything we played.
Probably the most powerful amp I have owned/heard. FTW.... :D
I don't think the freshman RT'ers realize the weight of this statement as Mailman has owned, flipped and/or played many top tier amps. :D
I do now! :D
Good to know since the stealth is not really very expensive.
just bought the 50 watter so the stealth will be my next

Yeah I have spent thousands on amps thru the years. The Stealth is the best deal out there in that price range.

Sometimes i think this amp sounds great, others times less so. that Pornografitti clip sounded great but to me the one thing that stands out about these EVH amps is that they sound to me like the low end is emphasized. The thing I still prefer about Marshalls is the all cut/crunch and the bass gets filled out by the well... bass guitar. Does anyone else notice this? Very full sounding amp for sure though. Still has me interested in that blue channel.

Dial back the resonance and bass and bring up the mids. Push it all through a greenback cab or a V30 cab and you're all set.

I brought my 50 watt and two Bogner 1x12 cabs loaded with vintage 30's to a jam yesterday. I normally play my Boogie Mark V when playing with cover bands, because I need the flexibility of many types of sounds and with the Mark V and pedals I can easily get many sounds to cover all the bases.

Yesterday was just a jam with some friends playing classic Hard Rock tunes and the EVH 5150 was sounding amazing. I stayed on the Blue Channel the whole time, every knob close to the half way mark and no pedals. I think I turned the gain up to 1:00 and the treble down a little towards the end.

When we played Man In The Box, I used my E-Flat guitar that has Dimarzio Super Distortions from the seventies in it and it was amazing how creamy and rich the tone was. My main guitar has SD Seth Lovers and that sound was clear and so open with incredible touch sensitivity.

I will post a question in another thread, but will do here as well.

What pedal do you suggest to use for leads on the blue channel?

I want a boost in volume, increased sustain, increased gain, but I want the sound to stay thick. I do not want it to thin out and get buzzy and shrill.

How are the celestion creamback 65's compared to the stock EVH g12 with the 50 watter?
I may be getting a splawn cab with creambacks but want to make sure they CB's gel with the 50 watter first.

Ok, so I have listened to a few incarnations of this amp.. the 100 watter gets a lot of flack for being congested or not saturated enough but I think that one is more my style. It seems more dry with less gain on tap than the few latest releases. I think 100 or 50 watt mini would be more my style as the 1x12 and 2x12 combos seem to really up the gain...a little too much for me. Same with the stealth.

Sort of an old video but watched 1st time today.
Pretty great demo by Pete with the original 5153.

Also love this one with Gary.

The amp is a Killer Jeff. If you ever get back around this area come check it out.
I moved out twd Frankenmuth since you last stopped by. We can really crank it up at the new place. :D

For the post about the OD pedal for the blue channel I have tons of OD pedals and right now Im digging the EHX soul food, that pedal seems to sound great with everything....

I am used to playing My HSS strat in LTD LP with my 50 watt I cant seem to find the sweet spot for my Standard strat. Anyone here using a strat share your settings?

I've tried many OD pedals over the years with my standard EVH 100 on channel 2 and my favorite is still my Maxon OD9. I think that basic tube screamer circuit sounds great with this amp.

This is exactly how I feel. My 2007 EVH standard 100 still sounds the best to my ears, especially in a live band setting. If I were you I would go with this and not the 50w.

Howard Kaplan says a 15 watt EVH mini is in the works. He also said the 5153-34 has a prototype that was shipped to Mr. EVH himself. The 5153-34 will not be out for awhile obviously but there's a prototype at least.

What pre tube can i get for the 50 watters V1 socket that has more gain than the stock JJ?
Mullard? tung sol?
yeah i want more gain! :D
