Hey gang!
I've been itching for the 50 watt version of this amp for a while but, I wanted to share some thoughts/concerns with you guys as owners first.
First off, I'd like to know if the line out on the 50 watt is POST power section i.e. the signal includes the resonance & presence settings in the signal. A plain old preamp out that doesn't include the signal of the resonance & presence means I have to use my Weber MASS instead of just a good resistor load. I'm not totally opposed to using the Weber MASS, I'm just trying to keep the accompanying rack size down as much as possible and, if I end up having to use the MASS, then that's two rack spaces alone.
What sort of signal is output by the headphone output? Is it some sort of pseudo filtered/cab emulated output? Does that signal capture the resonance and presence controls? Could it be used as a good sounding line out to feed my rack efx and on to the stereo power amp?
Keeping the resonance and presence controls intact is really important for me for tuning overall highs and lows depending on where I'm playing and through which cab I'm playing. So, that's why I'm fussing over this so much.
All my guitars are loaded with EMG's. All have 81's in the bridge, and if they're two hum, an EMG 60 in the neck position. Anything I use that has single coils are EMG SA's or S's. So, having said that, the tones I like are a REALLY clean channel one (I love Fender Twins, JC-120's, and Boogie MK1 & MK2 cleans) and, for my crunch sound, I can tell that the 50 watt nails exactly what I want in a second channel when in blue mode. However, my concern is, with the 50 watt sharing tone/gain controls, how far up the gain range can you go so that you have a good, crunchy blue mode without inducing breakup on the green/clean channel? Don't get me wrong, I know I can have it modded by Kruse or FJA to separate the volumes and gains for channels 1 & 2 but, I'd hate for that to be the only way for me to have 'clean' cleans and crunchy channel 2.
I've got everything else figured out as far as efx and whatnot. I'm just scratching my head about the stuff above and would like some feedback/input on this deal.
Also, I know the regular 5150 III and the Stealth are 'true' three channel heads but, I'm trying to keep the size/weight down.
Okay, thoughts? Fire away!
Thanks!
