I was laughing my ass off watching the NAMM vids, you can see how uneasy the Fender guys were as Ed was speaking just waiting for something screwed up while chain smoking in a building using his "superstar" status.
Why did he say that the guitar was made by pictures alone?!?!?!?!? No real sniffer is going to buy a reproduction guitar that was made with pictures as a guideline :?
The amp was made in 10 days?!?!?!? That freaking amp was on full display during his porno party
Fender has made a deeal with the devil to get their foot into the high gain door and man is it going to hurt when that door slams.

on the frankenstrat replica...
i completely agree w/ DJ on this...who would buy a guitar that was replicated only from pics...
i don't know if you guys picked up the recent GW with EVH on the cover but in the CD that comes w/ it there's an 18 minute vid of matt bruck interviewing ed. in the video ed states how amazed he was by that guy chip creating the replicas from pics...chip was sititng right next to him when ed said this and agreed. in the article in the magazine chip says that he was given the original frankenstrat on numerous occasions and the replicas were based from studying the original...
in the NAMM video ed states again w/ chip in the room that these were built from pictures and he never gave them the original...noone disaggreed
(i'm not saying ed's lying here because he's said the same thing in both situations)... what the hell is the article saying then...

I know what you mean Steve, its a gut shot. Im more hurt and disappointed that the guy that made me pick up a guitar has ended up like he has but I choose to enjoy what he has done rather than dwell on what he has become or slag him for it, it hurts less that way...sah5150":51f47 said:

Ugh........
Nah, I dont think that you slag him, not even close compared to others....sah5150":84480 said:>|<>QBB<
Yeah, I guess I slag him alot on the boards... I guess I'm just so mad at him. He was my hero...

actually i gotta tell you guys, i think the quarter is right...the earlier floyds were a bit larger and the end rested on the quarter but the later floyds were a bit shorter and didn't touch the quarter...if you look at the pics of frankenstrat in the late 80s and 90s the floyd didn't rest on the quarter.

Its guys like you and me who grew up on Eddie, who understand the sheer wonder and amazement that his playing gave us and put us on our paths so to speak. Where others laugh and ridcule him, we're an amalgam of saddness, anger and dissapointment, like we would have for a friend that had everything and went down a similar road of self destruction....
Ive been absolutely gaga over other players but none of them ever captivated me with the magical , almost svengali like hold that Eddie did. Its a hard thing to explain to some but I know that you understand EXACTLY where I am coming from...

STEEL KAGE":00e2d said:I dont have a problem with Wolfie on Bass, Im betting that genetics has given him the ability to hang...
What I do have a problem with is Eddies attitude towards Michael Anthony. The guy has never passed on an opportunity to slag MA, saying that he doesnt carry his weight but enjoyed all the benefits of being in VH..
Bob and I spoke about it and I think that MA's abilities as a background vocalist and a bassist are gravely underrated. Ive heard guys who can NAIL EVH's playing but the tunes just dont sound the same without those sig background vocals IMO..
On a another note, I was hanging outside of NAMM with Doug Aldrich when this guy Glen La Ferman came up to say hi and he was telling us the whole story about the RnR hall of fame. He also told us that MA is probably the wealthiest member of VH. He said that the guy bought row after row of apartment buildings and all kinds of real estate and is more than set for life... I was happy to hear that because I always thought of MA as a real solid standup nice guy...

I know, you are right, but in the mid-80s it also had a hockey stick headstock on it and this one has an old school Strat headstock. If you are going to do a replica from the glory days and you are gonna screw a quarter into it, why not get hold of some of the old NOS bridges and use the quarter to hold it up. You know what I'm saying? Hell, they say they had a manufacturer remake the single coil pickup covers out of stuff they no longer use as a special run for authenticity. You figure they could have handled the Floyd thing no?
