What were people buying in 1986.

In 86 I had a 1972 D-28S Martin, a 1972 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe, a Peavy amp one of the hybrds with solid state pre amp and 4 6L6 power tubes, a few pedals, and no spare anythings. I think I got my 59 Guild 20 watt amp later in the 80's, ditched the peavy for the Guild which is still my main amp today.

Im pretty sure in 1986 I had a Boogie .22 cal Combo and I sold it for a Randall half stack. Boy did I take it in the face!! The Randall sounded great in the bedroom but got buried live.

In 1986 I was three years old dancing naked in my Dads cowboy boots while singing "Shout! Shout! Let it all out! These are the things we can do with out! Coooooome Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon!"

RG100 half stack. I still have the head lol! its at my Girlfriends house and I haven't plugged into it since 1990 something lol!! :D

It was replaced by a Lee Jackson Modded marshall in 89 and then the LJ modded amp was replaced by a Marshall 2210 with and EQ in the loop

Mine looks like a bomb hit it!! All the knobs are gone and the tolex looks like ass!!

I new about the Boogie Mark series amps in 82-1983. My friend had one and I got to play his. I wanted one really bad but could not afford one. It wasn't until 92-93 that I had the cash and I Bought the MKIV and its been my main amp ever since.
funny thing is that I played my last live 80's band show in 91, so I never got to play the MKIV live until years later.

The MKIV is a killer amp, i have gigged my MKIII and it cut through big time and sounded huge!!

I got my Boogie MKIII about 3years ago, i remember buying it on your recommendation without even hearing it or playing it :D It was well worth taking your advice, that amp sounds fantastic!!

in 86' I believe i had just a twin reverb and a marshall half stack 2203 and old analog pedals. same shit i use now except i have more! although i was using Floyds back then I admit.

Whats a good eq to put in the loop that doesn't break the bank (for a 2205)? All I got right now is my PQ-3 but its way too damn noisey to put back there. I"d like one of those AC powered boss ones but don't want to spend the money. :aww:

Heh, my '86 RG100ES cuts through brick. It can easily keep up with my VTM (actually sounds better than the vtm up loud), and it buries my .50 cal +.

I bet you were running it with the sustain circuit right? which is engaged by pulling out the treble knob? Lowers the volume too much for live playing. It's best to keep that treble knob pushed in and use a boost pedal.

In 1986 I sold my Peavey and bought a G-K. I had a Vox 6 x 10 cab that I cut down to a 4 x 10 cab and I wired it for stereo. Boss pedals of course (I still use some of them) and the guitar was an Ibanez something with a trem. I don't remember the model, it was black....
I also had a 69 Tele that I did the unpardonable sin to, I routed out the body and put in a Seymour Duncan 'quarter-pounder' and a Badass bridge. That guitar freakin' screamed! Anyways, I loaned it to my brother, and right after, he went through a nasty divorce, that guitar "disappeared."

Did your amps have a volume boost for solo's?
Sorry I just read TGP thread. Once again it's like a one legged cat trying to bury turds in on a frozen pond.

Let's see... I started playing right around that time. At first, I had a $75 Cort electric guitar that I ran through my dads old '60s Vox Super Beatle solid-state head and a Peavey PA cabinet with a 12" speaker and a horn. I used an Arion Metal Master pedal into it. That amp wouldn't go loud enough to jam with drums, which sucked. Something must've been wrong with it.

Anyway, I then moved up to a Gibson Les Paul Studio (as a gift for 8th grade graduation), a Crate solid-state head, and the Peavey PA cab. If I remember right, I played that for a good while.

The stores around me in small town USA pretty much only had Randall, Peavey, Crate, ADA, and Laney. That's all I remember anyway. I never saw anything by Boogie, Marshall, etc...

Chris

I had a "Harmony" strat style guitar that my parents got me from the Sears wishbook   . I didn't play it much because I didn't get serious with the guitar until years later...

in 1986 i didn't have a guitar. we had then communism, which was br00tuhlz enough by itself

Although at least you can say the SS amps of today are better than the SS amps of '86.

I don't know man, most of the really well liked SS amps around these forums are Ampegs and Randalls from the 80s to early 90s

In '86 I was 20, getting ready to make my homage to LA, which was the center of the Universe for the music I was into. I had dreams and hair--lots and lots of it.

Bastardized Gibsons and Strats ruled the day for me, with coloful paint schemes and cream pickups run through a Marshall JCM800 with MXR distortion + and 10 EQ and other misc effects.

I know this gear seems primative to some. But today the changes in technology and playing style are only marginal. (How many times can you invent the wheel?) But in the 80s, the changes in these areas were exponential, especially coming out of the 70s.
