The tones I go for are like a big mix of all of my influences. Certain album's like Master of Puppets, As The Palaces Burn, Dirt, Sonic Excess In It's Purest Form, Far Beyond Driven, Deliverance are the ones that influence me the most.

I'm not good enough to chase any ones style. Since I was a little kid I have had a tone in my head that I have chased. I started to think about this when in around 1980/81 my dad, of all people, asked what kind of guitar sound I liked. He didn't play, but he was curious. He listened to a lot of blues and '50s Rock and Roll. I had an idea then, but didn't know what it was. Then later in the '80s there was another tone I fell in love with, which added to the tone in my head. As time moved on, I realize the tone in my head back then was probably a cross between VH II and SRV. In practice, I was in metal bands way back when playing a lot of big 4 stuff and Wrathchild America, Overkill, etc. Back when that stuff was new. Far from VH II and SRV tone, LOL.

I never understood trying to chase someone else's tone. I totally get being inspired by a someone's tone or technique, but why try to replicate it?

Never 'chased' tones, but I found albums I really enjoyed then found out what gear the band used to try and find my sound using the same/simlar gear. That has led me onto my own path and a great foundation to finding out my own sound, people always say " you always sound like you no matter what amp you play", I equate that to the "tone in fingers" knowledge.

Songwriting and music composition: Megadeth/Metallica/Iron Maiden/Soilwork/Inflames
Lead playing & phrasing: Marty Friedman, Paul Gilbert, Dave Mustaine, maybe a little bit of Ace Frehley and Malmsteen too.

Dino first 3 Fear Factory albums is one tone i still obsess over
The best description I've heard of Dino's tone from that era is a "cybernetic high mid whine" he got from his JCM 800 2203 Metalhead modded Marshall when switching from power chords to intervals.
Fucking glorious!

Mine would be to frankenstein Guthrie Govan, Ian Thornley, John Sykes, Joe Holmes, Doug Rappoport, and Nuno.... in styles, tones and mojo.

I agree ! It’s so melodic too

I'm not focused on metal these days. I've always been more of a rhythm player who plays leads, not a lead player who plays rhythm.

If I had to pick one, it would be Paul Stanley. (and Johnny Marr; and John Lennon, Blackmore, Schuldiner, Masvidal,...)
