Dimmu Borgir gets a lot of shit from the black metal community because their records actually sound good and not like they were recorded with a single radioshack mic from the other side of a storm drain tunnel, so clearly they’re not real black metal.
Lol..When I was seeing a particular tattoo guy in the later 2000’s he would play a lot of Black Metal that was exactly as you just described

For the win - 2019 KORN

BTBAM has some of the most unreal Boogie tones also.

Listen to when the Rectifiers kick in after the Friedman.

But their PEM album has some of the most crushing tone I’ve ever heard. They used ENGL Savage 120’s on that album, not sure what cabs or mics.

Such a good album. Galder and Nick Barker really elevated their songs.

Silenoz said the tones on that album were two tracks of Savage and two tracks of his Boss GX-700 preamp mixed equally. I'm guessing it was two 57s Fredman style on an ENGL 4x12 with V30s.

Yup, love the tone on this album. Also helps that Vogg comes up with some of my favourite riffs.
I saw Decapitated in 2007 on the Summer Slaughter tour, shortly before the accident. They were the only other band that gave Necrophagist a run for their money.

Tuning up instead of down! :D

When Lamb of God used the Mesa Royal Atlantics on Resolution, and the Badlanders in the newer stuff. I was a big fan of the Mark Series tones they got too, but that's the best they ever sounded.
LOG did use a Royal Atlantic on Resolution, but the album is mainly Mark IV and it's pretty obvious by listening to it. Even Mark Morton said they got the RA late in the recording process. That to me is one of my fav LOG tones. Omens is pretty impressive as well, they used a Badlander, a TC-100 and a Mark V on that one.

Honestly, my fav all tme recorded LOG tone is the remix/remaster of "As The Palaces Burn", it's very raw and organic. It's not super thick but it's perfect for the style of music they're playing. It's a blend of Mark IV and Framus Cobra.

Artist: Crowbar
Album: Sonic Excess In Its Purest Form
Year: 2001

Unbelievably heavy tone. Recorded with solid state Randalls.

Yes, this album sounds excellent and very crushing! As well as the rg100es they used a Randall Cyclone I believe?? I think they quad tracked the album, 2 tracks rg100es, 2 cyclone for most of the songs, but not exactly sure.

lol who the fuck wants a JCM 800? I've got a '83 vertical input modded by Dave that does sound great for what it is, but I'm not sure I've ever seen people rave en masse about its tone?

probably because it needs to be cranked....so genuine question is JCM 800 demand a thing?
Sure it is, tons of people swear by jcm 800's.
