Who’s style - tone do you chase?

My tone is a mish mash of a bunch of different high gain players:

James Hetfield
Scott Ian (first 3 Anthrax and of course SOD)
Fredrik Thordendal
King Buzzo
Trey Azagthoth
Greg Ginn
Bill Steer
Parris Mayhew
Larry Lalonde (Possessed era)
Eric Petersen

I don't really chase a style just try to meld my influences into my own thing and sometimes those influences aren't even guitar players (Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Michael Jackson, etc).

As far as tone, my target tone is inspired by early EVH and the tones that inspired it like early ZZ Top, etc. So not as high gain or tight as some but I do like to get thrashy from time to time.

I would say a Cross Between Joey Z from LOA(Ugly & Soul Searching) Early EVH, Dino from Fear Factory, Scott Ian's Current tone, Eric Peterson from Testament & Todd Jones tone on Terror's Lowest of the Low.

Billy Corgan 2000/Machina live era tone to a degree but i like using it in a more heavy/modern way.

Here are a few examples. (Instrumental versions of the songs so you can hear guitars better.)

Lynch, Evh, Sykes, Demartini, Huff... that kind of stuff

Early Blues Saraceno.
Early David T. Chastain.
Early VH.
Early Joe Satriani.
My style is mostly the combination of these 4.
Chastain huh? We used to see him at Bogarts in Cinci once a month back in the day. Great place to see him. Opened for them in Columbus once around the For Those Who Dare time.
Those Lab Series amps had some power.

For heavy rock tones I aim in the direction of EVH on WACF, Fair Warning, Akira Takasaki on Lightning Strikes. Fairly bright.

When I lighten up it would be like to Alex Lifeson or the guitar player from The Outfield. When I write music it’s using chords like those guys moreso than the above.

hard rock tone= vh & nuno
leads= holdsworth, johnson, lane
clean= landau, johnson

I was at multiple shows of his. Bogarts was the shit in the 80s! I even took a few lessons from him when I was in high school.

Brent Hinds comes thru in my playing. As does Hammett/Hetfield.

Gear wise Metallica comes first. And I still pinch my arm that I finally, after sooo many years, found an original IIC+.

Heck yeah, Bogarts was awesome back then. It was always packed and we were always right down front. We would see him at the Alrosa too. Met him a couple times.

All those Marshall cabs…

The AJFA Metallica album Hetfield rhythm guitar sound is what really got me into playing guitar more, I think I started playing guitar before that, memory is kinda hazy, when that album came out and I 'chased' Metallica tones for years because of that album hence my 1st tube amp, my Mesa Tremoverb, but I also loved Jake E. Lee's guitar tone on The Ultimate Sin album by Ozzy Osbourne so I guess I kinda found inspiration from James Hetfield for rhythm playing and Jake E. Lee and Steve Vai for soloing.

I went on a quest to find my own sound and now that I've used my other amps in my signature and now, most recently, the Boogie Mark V 90-watt head I almost find myself trying to find my own sound again! LOL!!

This is my benchmark metal tone. Chunky but still woody
