Get ready to be mad... the Fortin Killer Kali module is awesome!

Devil's Advocate: NAMM is a trade show, not Guitar Center. It's for manufacturers and vendors to see new products and network with retailers and distributors and other people in the industry. Sure, part of that experience is demoing products. But I think there are rules around volume—either explicit or implied. But yeah... don't be a jerk about it lol.

I get what you're saying man, but it's kind of expected to show off your gear at NAMM. If he were smart, he would have handed Jer one of his guitars. I guess one "sale" was that important? :dunno:

Just because he didn’t assess his surroundings doesn’t give him the right to do that anymore than breaking the noise ordinances implied or not. The fact it was caught and his name given leaves a permanent image of his business with the module from here forward. As a matter of fact people tend NOT to act like that in public because there’s recordings and images being taken all over - just read the room. He could have asked if he’s going to wash out his booth to at least do it with one of his guitars and throw it into the video as a dual review to make a negative into a positive. He could have notified staff on hand as well.

Trust me I go to guitar shows all of the time and I’m constantly told to keep it down as well being spoiled and able to crank whatever I want as loud as I want in Madison square basement. However I’ve never been treated that way before except ages ago when my playing wasn’t all that great and it truly was disrespectful on my part.

The only person that has ever treated me that way was my ex wife. No one else has any right or reason. I'm impressed how Jer handled it, he's not a small dude, that guy Kevin could have been choking on his NAMM lanyard.

I grew up in a non music friendly house. My old man treated me that way. I wasn’t allowed to even have an amplifier on when he was home from work as it interrupted his tv time. I had to tune my guitar with the body to my ear. My wife knows better than to complain now that I pay the bills. She only asks of my time and nothing else.

Sounds like a good strong relationship man. It's funny, my ex and I actually get along way better these days. She is now asking me to try to get my boys into guitar, lol. She gets me guitar gifts every year, saying it was my boys. We have kids together, so a lot of stuff has to slide to make it work for them.

That sucks that your parents didn't encourage it. I'm sorry man, that's traumatic for a musician. I was very lucky, my grandfather was a traveling jazz guy in the 30's, and my father was in military bands and church bands his whole life. My grandmother was a pianist, and my mom is a singer. I was blessed to never be discouraged from music.

This is what I thought exactly. The only people I've seen act so badly in this kind of way are girls upset at guys about stuff lol
Look, ultimately he made the decision to come and try to make a public example of me somewhere where there are in fact regulations over volume. Not once did a NAMM employee come by to ask us to turn down. I was in the moment playing as the amp was set by the guy from Synergy. It was not set to arena volume. People were talking to other BAD employees right next to us at the Diezel area.

As far as not knowing I was making a video… I’m a fucking YouTube guy at NAMM and he knows I’m there for content. He knew what he was doing and he also felt it was ok to act that way towards me in front of everyone at the Boutique Amps booth AND whoever he was doing business with.

For as long as we have known each other and the amount of times we’ve talked outside of the trade shows, he knew I wouldn’t intentionally be trying to drown out his business convos at NAMM. Again, see the beginning of the vid, the guy was setting the amp, not me. And again, not ONE NAMM employee came by to tell us we were too loud.

He could have sent someone over. He could have spoken to the guys manning the BAD booth, but no. He decided he’d come set a “nobody” straight and that’s some bullshit. Actually, the fact that we did know each other seems to have made it very comfortable for him to just come reprimand me like I was his kid in front of a group of people… as well as his customers, and that’s just not ok.

Man I know these feels. My dad and step mother used to punish me by locking my guitar and amp in their room for weeks at a time when I was grounded.

Whenever I’d be teaching myself a song, like figuring out a Dokken song or something, one of them would come by my room and say shit like “see, you can’t even write your own songs…”

I got one better. When I did play my POS 1W nothing practice amp my parents couldn’t discern my playing from radio play. They’d bang on the wall of the house and yell for me to turn the radio off at 7pm so they could go to sleep.

And honestly that’s probably why I design, build, and collect the most brutal badass amps on the face of the planet

Yeah man! I am fairly certain my parents are absolutely part of my gear hoarding obsession.

Ha! Thanks mate. I remember when I was sixteen, and I got my first show booked at an actual venue, I asked my step mom if I could stay out a little later so the guys in the band didn’t have to end their night driving me home early.

Of course she said “you know when curfew is…” then proceeded to ask “why are you even playing a concert? They’re not even your songs!”

Like the biggest news of my life at the time, but let’s go and kick it in the nuts… seems like a pattern for me!

 don't take that dbag personally, that's a "him" problem, not yours. Or should I say he/him

Module sounds good on your vid to me!

I was always told that in business you need to treat everyone with respect - you never truly know who you are dealing with. Sure it could be a nobody but it could be a well connected person, someone with a platform, or a potential big customer. Even more so in this day and age where seemingly everyone is recording everything all the time. Vid has almost 4k views at this time, probably at least 75% of the viewers first impression of that guy’s company is him being an jerk to someone playing guitar

So when is that thing supposed to be released?
SYN20IR is supposed to come next month (February) at about 999 USD.

They haven't supplied a date for the Killer Kali but I guess the module might release together with the SYN20 or very close to it.

Both the ToneKing and Fortin modules set to release "in about a month"; timestamp here:

I was happy to see in the Fortin website blurb that Dan Gower was mentioned. I've dealt with Dan multiple times here in the uk, had 3 amazing amps done by him and he deserves all the praise and recognition he can get. When I had a KK+ by Dan I didn't really understand it nor could I put it to good use with my amateur recording skills, shitty IRs etc but I'm eager to give the module a try.

Well I can say without a doubt it’s the most lively high gainer to date. Super responsive and just sounds pissed. It can also do more tones than what I had in the vid. They really did a great job.
