RT Detectives have found Chugg Identity

Did you get to turn it up? I assume so...but...this more than maybe any other amp needs high volume to really do its thing...although I enjoyed the MC100 I had at lower volumes as well. In fact, that amp, at a whisper volume almost sounded like a Trainwreck "amps gonna blow up" thing; no idea...

Wizard Wednesdays - Pics and Clips

Do you have a good modeler yet? If most of your purpose/time spent with your gear is recording, make it easy on yourself and grab an AXE or Kemper or Helix et al....and just go direct into your computer. No super $$ mics, soundproofing your recording room, yada yada...just plug in and hit go on...

You don't have a Wizzer?? Oh boy...oops I mean Oh girl..... Not that there's anything wrong with that. I think.

Wizard Wednesdays - Pics and Clips

I get the comparisons to VHT/Fryette stuff....there is a dryness/clarity that reminds me of the D60/120s I had. But, one aspect that separates a Wiz from the VHT is the feel....the 2 Wizards I had, felt amazing and had a somewhat liquid feel which was far different than either VHT I had. It's no...

I think a couple of my EL34s started to melt after I read this.

Wizard Wednesdays - Pics and Clips

Killer clip! Wizards always deliver. The MC100 I had was amazing with a boost; as long as I left the onboard boost off it took the pedal like a champ. Not many amps compare to a 100w Wizard, exceptions being an old Superlead + pedals or a HiWatt + pedals. Like a musical carnival ride.

Help my friend pick a new amp; Mesa Mark edition

Just get a III. That's what he liked, that's what he should get. The lower wattage/newer amps are cool, but have the limitation of being new and having little punch compared to the vintage versions. He might, every once in a while, want to open it up for fun. With a III he'll enjoy it more than...

What is the best modded plexi style amp you've ever played?

This is the right answer. Wizards are killer as well...and, I also played an amp that gets a lot of love here. It was tight, lots of gain...but no character at all. It's like the modder took the parts out that made it a vintage Marshall(a 79 2204) and turned it into a sterile boring modern...

Rig Rundown with Robb, guitar tech of Andy Sneap of Judas Priest 2024

I'm confused. Those Marshalls must be covering up a rack of 5150s. Cuz they're the bestest amps EVAR.

Heaven and Hell & Mob Rules

Heaven and Hell & Mob Rules

Dio Sabbath is killer. Mob Rules was the first one I heard; I was 12 yo when HH came out...I heard it on the Heavy Metal soundtrack record I bought in the early 80s. I had always read that HH was Marshall; and MR was Mesa. The tones between both albums seem to fit that analogy.

What's the best contact cleaner for 1/4" jacks in amps and guitars?

DeOxit D5 for me as well; same procedure. Never an issue.

Some help with understanding tube matching

My 72 Trem came to me from England in 2020; seller said he got it from the original owner and the Siemens 34s/Tungsram pres were all original to the amp. They bias in at about what your numbers ^^ are and it sounds so good, I'd hate to mess with success so to speak and try a better matched quad.

Some help with understanding tube matching

I'll just mention that, I've never noticed a tonal improvement when I match (within 1-2ma of each other) vs a quad of, lets say 30ma on the low side to 40ma on the high side. In fact, those quads for some reason sound better in my amps.

    1979 Bogner Modded Marshall (Pics)

Cameron would sometimes do that; as well as Jose from what I've read. Whatever works, works.

    1982 JCM 800

One additional use is the PS as a slave amp with a W/D/W setup, which is easily and by FAR the best way to run effects. Best tone, hands down. However, it IS more gear to lug around as you'll need an additional cab. I had a PS briefly but as I already had a great WDW setup, I didn't need it for...

What is the best modded plexi style amp you've ever played?

My original 72 SLP with a Griff Distortion pedal in front. So good, it sounds even better than a fantastic Nick Aldrich modded 69 Marshall I had last year. :giggle:

    Rick interviews Cantrell

Facelift tone is THE AIC tone for me. Which, was either a slightly modded boosted 65 Bassman OR the Snorkler(Dude who owns the Snorkler said the Marshall was used for Leads, and cleans while the Bassman was the dirty Rhythm)..... But, if you can locate the We Die Young demo, Jerry used his...
