It's of course all a personal choice. Plenty of metal bands post 83 do use boosted/modded Marshalls, but you have to work pretty hard to get that tone. Metal isn't my thing so I'll defer that to you and others.
My only point is, they are typically super reliable in my experience. Lots of hours...
Original, 5150, Plex. But, I can barely see the Plex dials; everything on 10. Which NEVER works ever with ANY amp I've tried that with. So, whoever dialed that in needs to maybe re dial it better.
I'm sure there are amps that are OK sounding dimed but I've never owned one. In fact, they all...
This is a good price; and if the UPS store is doing it they are on the hook for any damage.
These amps are a classic for a reason...low vol playing is fantastic; of course, opened up is best. But they are great amps, and the only amp I feel is slightly better is an early 70s Superlead.
Highly...
Haha gonna disagree big time. I've had, at this point, 60 stock/modded Marshalls all pre 1990...and not one, has ever had an issue. The only issue that 'might' raise its head are the filter caps. Buy 3 or 6 ARS caps(3 for a 50w; 6 for the 100) and grab a solder gun and swap em in yourself...
It IS a Marshall tone..but it's dialed in poorly, or recorded poorly, or all of the above. It sounds harsh, abrasive, scratchy, etc etc...I can tell he's probably diming it which NEVER EVER sounds good with ANY and ALL Marshalls I've owned..even the one true plexi, a 67 50T. They all have sweet...
I'll get in touch next time I head to Ct, to visit my brother....maybe I can swing by on the way. I'll bring my 72 Superlead and Griff built Dist pedal as well...
Ooooh look we have a tuff guy.
Reminds me of ol little Mr Gerlach....talking all tuff saying he was a BB in 4 different martial arts disciplines; and he was a 6'4 badass..Funny though, I remembered he posted a pic of himself talking with Charlie Sheen in Cabo; ol Chuck towered over Mr 6'4...
This.
Really good player; but if my 800 sounded like that I'd immediately unplug from it and fire up another amp. That doesn't sound very good, at all. Very raspy; and kinda bloated. Like there's something wrong with it. Maybe it's well past the sweet spot (these amps start to sound worse...
Jesus, that is the worst I've seen. I've bought many thousands worth of used gear from them one the years; only a couple things were horribly packed...all from Fla stores.
If they don't take care of you on this I'd get your CC company involved.
Nice!
I'd go totally stock; no MV...but that's me. I like a pedal or two in front...a good Distortion pedal will act as a MV.
Great amp!! My fav amp of all time...early 70s Superlead.
Can't go wrong.
