Dylana at 3rd Power Amps to build Satriani his next amp for the tour

I’m not getting all the “but he could have used a JVM (or Splawn or whatever)” talk. I mean this is RIg Talk bizarro world when we start talking like that. We all flip amps when “we could have just used X”. We’ve been waiting for Dave to release his vintage line…like we need that?…but JS can’t have an amp designed for him?

I don’t know if it is hate for Joe or reverence for Ed but…this is a weird thread some of guys sound like imposters with your “we don’t need another amp” nonsense. We always need another amp…even when we don’t.:banhim:
1000%. This thread is so strange it’s fascinating. Guys with tens of thousands of dollars in amps they play alone at home having an issue with a pro buying a new amp. Then getting angry when their reasoning is questioned. BizzarroWorld indeed

My point is the lackadaisical approach to the tour, but the seriousness about the tone for it. EVH sounded like EVH through a trashcan. Estrada sounded like EVH with a Splawn. What does Joe need for a custom anything for this tour to cop EVH when woodshedding would go farther?
But why did he need a Splawn? Using your reasoning he could use anything? He didn’t “need“ that Splawn.

Exactly! Estrada could play through whatever he wanted and still sound like EVH. So why does Joe need a custom designed anything for a tone that wasn’t even his?
Because he wants one and that is the only reason that matters?

No he doesn’t want one. He needs it.

Go to any company and tell them EVH’s tone absolutely cannot be done with an EVH 5150 III, or any amp that exists right now for that matter, and that you must have a new design from the ground up just for a fun cover band.

Yeah I’m not getting this at all, sorry. I buy gear I don’t “need” constantly and I bet most on this thread do as well. I’m sensing this is more an anti-JS or an anti-3rd Power thing than people are willing to admit. And this is a major tour—I’m in a “fun cover band” lol

I’ve had 2 5150III amps FWIW—if I were doing a VH thing, I wouldn’t choose that amp either. Too compressed IMO for the early stuff. I hated the Quickrod—I think I respect Estrada more after wrestling with that amp myself.

Didn’t Andy Wood just show that an EVH pedal setup through a clean amp sounded killer for EVH?
Yeah we just are at opposite ends of it. Joe doesn’t need anything but that’s never stopped any of us and countless other artists before him from pursuing gear. Why did Al need a Splawn when an old Marshall would work? Why would Andy need an MXR pedal when he could have used…whatever. So to me this isn’t something that really moves the needle. But it might yield a really cool amp.

There just seemed to be all this vitriol (in this thread not pointing at you) about an artist getting a new amp and I can’t remember that ever happening before…on a guitar-rig based forum of all places.

Thats what’s funny - he’s going for a tone that requires an immense amount of compression from slaving the new amp into stereo effects and then into wet/dry poweramps.

I see this as an opportunity in tone study. I love Joe’s playing, but oddly never his tone, theres always something in it I dont dig, something non organic for lack of a better term. could be his pups, ive never cared for the ones I tried. But i know I’ve liked the 3rd Power amp clips I’ve heard, I’m curious if I will still hear what always turns me off for joes tone, but his songs are always so good i can get past the tone.

You sound like an angry teenager—can you even have a normal conversation or do you just spew out garbage when you don’t agree with something? My avatar is me chief. I also post clips all the time—I don’t hide behind anonymity. But I can sure see why you do.
This the best you can do? U think no one can tell who is who. I been here long before you and the cool clips you post banjo boy.

You have quite the stable of nice amps yourself 😉

No offense taken. I don’t get the phobia comments and I certainly don’t condone it. Dylana is just doing what’s asked and she’s talented on top of it - I’m eager to see what she comes up with. Whether it’s available to the market or not I don’t even care. Her amps are works of sonic art.

My angst however comes from actually playing EVH covers and knowing no amp will ever make you sound like EVH of any era if you haven’t woodshedded.

Estrada sounded like EVH through a Quickrod because he’s a badass guitar player that has the swing. Andy wood and Pete Thorn have it - all three crazy talented. It’s not the gear as to why.

I expect an actual professional guitar player, which I am certainly not, to realize he/she doesnt need anything custom made to nail anything EVH came up with. It wouldn’t be a problem if it was something Joe wanted for his own tone.
