None of them can cop the tone of SRV. I think I need to design a brand new never heard circuit for my new SRV cover band.
I’ve had amps built for me—it’s a pretty cool process. Of course I had to pay for them lol

If I start an SRV tribute I’m def getting a new amp!

If you want to sound like VHI, no amp will give you that UNLESS you play through JBL120s and GBs. I can take ANY of the amps mentioned here, and if I have those speakers it will easily cop 90% of that tone.
I ran a stock 82 2204 through that cab, and it's all there.

But that's only for VHI.

I’m assuming this tour will feature mostly Hagar era stuff? Regardless I don’t give a fuck if it sounds like Ed, only that it sounds good

No offense taken. I don’t get the phobia comments and I certainly don’t condone it. Dylana is just doing what’s asked and she’s talented on top of it - I’m eager to see what she comes up with. Whether it’s available to the market or not I don’t even care. Her amps are works of sonic art.

My angst however comes from actually playing EVH covers and knowing no amp will ever make you sound like EVH of any era if you haven’t woodshedded.

Estrada sounded like EVH through a Quickrod because he’s a badass guitar player that has the swing. Andy wood and Pete Thorn have it - all three crazy talented. It’s not the gear as to why.

I expect an actual professional guitar player, which I am certainly not, to realize he/she doesnt need anything custom made to nail anything EVH came up with. It wouldn’t be a problem if it was something Joe wanted for his own tone.
Yeah, see I never thought the amp was actually his pursuit of god tone or anything. It’s a promotional thing.

Everybody knows by now if you build a good Ed-spec clone, variac it, load it, rack it, reamp it and use the right guitar then you are as close as you’re going to get. And it would have the feel too. It’s actually really easy…except for that one element, the playing.

But I would think JS will do the woodshedding too.

Yep majority will be Hagar era. They'll throw in Jump, Ain't Talking or Panama which Mikey sings some of those, same thing they did when Sam toured with EVH.

Sam's so butt hurt over Roth he's going to do as little as possible to promote that era with his voice.

Hundred millionaires and their drama lol

In what kind of cabinet ?? Seriously!

Probably some Marshall, but either way it’s just one of the best speaker mixes I’ve tried for high gain and I don’t play VH stuff. EVH just discovered an awesome sounding speaker mix back then

Just grab a JCM 800, 900 B cab and grab a pair of 8 ohm JBLs, which aren't cheap, and a pair of 8 ohm M25s, new or old and load em up with the JBLs on bottom, GBs on top. Done.

Or, find a used Marshall BX or B classic cab and get the JBLs and put them on the bottom. Although, I've never seen 16 ohm JBL 120s so you'd still have to find a pair of 8 ohm GBs.
But, if you really want that 1st album tone, get the cab done and put any Marshall through it and you'll instantly hear that tone....easiest and quickest way to get it IMO. Just have to build the cab.

Gotta be 20’s imo. I only was able to mix with heritage 20’s for now since those I had in 8 ohms, but they’re a decent reissue IME

I might try that for fun . I have one of the Friedman B cabs with the V-30/ GB combo . I could replace the V-30' and see what happens

Yep, it's a cool tone and you'll instantly hear that 1st album tone using your Marshall or similar. But if your cab is 16 ohm then good luck finding 16 ohm JBLs. I've never seen 1.
