Depressing.
GOAT / RIP.

The guy had the looks, the style, the chops AND the voice. I have heard him sounding as good if not better than Coverdale in some cases. What a monstrous tone.

RIP

Man this is shitty news. Spent tons of hours listening to him play. What a legend of a musician.

I was just listening to this last night.

NO!!! FUCK cancer. One of the all time greats. My condolences to his family. May his memory be a blessing.

God bless you, John. God bless you too, Phil.

What a GREAT live record. I bought it when it came out. Fantastic playing from everyone in that lineup.

Thin Lizzy's "Thunder and Lightning" album melted my brain when it came out and it still does. I've listened to it regularly since 1983 and NEVER gotten tired of it. It's one of the BEST records in the history of rock IMO. IF YOU HAVEN'T HEARD IT, YOU ARE MISSING OUT!

How did I not know there's a Deluxe version of the "Thunder and Lightning" album?! Discovered it just now on YouTube.

Here's a link to the playlist for the entire Deluxe version:

Such a shame he couldn’t get it together after Blue Murder and release a steady flow of music. It was always the endless news of a project that would never happen.
For a while after Blue Murder he released a decent chunk of music , more than a lot of the other 80s guitar heroes ended up releasing in their careers . Four solo albums , the awesome Bad Boy Live album and I think he re-formed Thin Lizzy for a bit , but it all dried up around 2004

Wtf. Didn't know he was fighting cancer. He was one of the best. Monster chops, tone and style. RIP

I might as well just go and put " Jellyroll" on repeat for a few hours. F.T.W.
This sucks!!

Kudos and respect to the people around him that kept his personal shit quiet.
Fucking tone monster!

I woke up today thinking JS was only 65 yo which is quite young for death; then I realized that there are a shit ton of great guitarists on the edge now based on their age alone. Think of the monster musical invasion starting with The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Clapton, Lukather, AC/DC, Zepp etc etc. I hate to say it but based on guitarist’s age and the golden era of guitar greats (1960-1990’s), we are going to lose a lot of our hero’s relatively soon. Sorry; I am a realistic observationalist at heart. 🫤

It’s something that’s been on my mind for the last few years. It especially hits hard after every Tonetalk episode because you see the wrinkles, the white hair…and inevitably somewhere between hearing the awesome stories, you realize..oh shit, everyone’s much older!

Over the next 10-20 years, rock music will truly disappear afaik

Legend. RIP

we're at that age where many of our heroes that are left, won't be with us for long.
