Mezzabarba

I have an SLO, and have played the Mzero many times, directly comparing both.
I think there are micd clips out there somewhere. If not, they're on my laptop.
Basically, I'd be fine having a Mezza if I didn't have a killer SLO. The SLO is a bit sweeter, Mezza a bit meaner. I wish my SLO had the NFB knob, and the Mezza had an effects loop volume. Mezza is a bit more particular about plugging and unplugging things in the fx loop. Like, you dont want to do it with the amp running. Something with the ground wiring. And we ran into some noise issues using it with an amp switcher.
Other than that, it's a tricked out SLO with EL34s. I wouldn't give up my SLO for one. But I'd grab one if I didn't already have my SLO.

This is good advice @the rossness

Owned a Trinity in 2022 for a minute. Sounded pretty good; like others have said, definitely in the SLO camp. I do prefer tight/quick amps and the Trinity I felt had neither the tightness or the feel I prefer.

I think if I went that route again, I would just get another SLO.

I kinda missed that they are "famously at their best for players who focus on playing leads", before i bought a SLO to try it. :D
Someone has gotta say it to him too: 😅 🥳

Kinda sounds like shit,tbh...I have a question though. What the fuck is on his wrist? Is this like a new fret wrap type thing..

That’s… bizarre. Mine was made in 2020 and my pedals and rack unit work perfectly in the loop. Uncolored. I’ve neve4 heard of having to shut any amp off while connecting the effects loop. That’s just weird!

Agreed. Direct from the makers of the amp.

Great amps, I had a trinity that tracked really well. The MZero reminded me more of a OD SE+, thick and ferociously searing at the same time but indeed in the SLO camp. Just the bass is more like 'underneath' or in the gain like the OD or Hot Rod than 'around' the gain which is how I perceived the SLO.
Hard to describe,, same kinda deal how the XTC has the chewyness baked in the low mids; that's the smooth holow almost lack of growl with the Mezzas but with some Marshall bite.

Good amps in their own right and with enough of a sonic signature which I guess it's hard to achieve after all these years of great amps. between that and the SLO I'd get whichever I'd find cheaper 2nd hand.

Kind of a bummer that overpriced copycats have turned you off from investing in quality gear that is actually unique and one of a kind.

If money was no object I’d own a lot more custom stuff than I do but I get it. We are all trying to carve out our own sound. Sometimes there’s better and cheaper alternatives, other times there isn’t.
Not really for me, I wasn't looking to replace anything with the Trinity. I'm set amp wise. I just really liked it's layout and figured I'd give it a go and was vibing for something high dollar at the time. Money isn't really an issue with me and gear and expense or affordability doesn't factor into whether I like something or not. I mean I greatly preferred the Engl Artist over the Trinity as I went through it right afterwards.

I guess to clarify, I really didn't need anything since I was set amp wise. It was just a bummer that another high dollar amp with lots of promise was so far off the mark for me. I can generally get something passable out of many amps but like I said OD, EQ both in front and in the loop I could never dial the roundness out.

I owned a Nirvana preamp as well as an
MZero briefly. Everything said is spot on - for me it was just too round on the bottom and not tight enough so I moved them on. Really good cleans and crunch on the Nirvana too.

One of the nicest sounding amps I’ve owned! I should make a cellphone video to see if mine sounds crappy like the other videos.
Every demo of these I have heard sound thin in the upper mids in a way that is not pleasant. I don't feel the thick, power behind it. It reminds me of a mix between those certain types of 5150s and a Soldano. I probably heard demos of mostly the same model but can't recall what it was now. Possibly the MZero(?)

but I was a bit less experienced/discerning at the time I had it

This is a challenge I have with giving reviews on amps I liked a lot in the past- both the mzero and redseven leviathan were amps I’d have ranked highly when I had them, but I’m not sure how they’d compare to the really cool stuff I’ve played since

I have the MZero OD and love it. I do like it boosted but don’t always do that. The negative feedback control helps a lot. I also got mine for $1250 so maybe that makes it sound better! Lol!
Jesus that’s an absolute steal haha

You guys crack me up. You micro-examine every nuance of tone on other amps, then when Wizard clips are posted (that blow it out the ass) you worship it like it's the second coming.
I'd own a Mezzabarba over the highly overrated and "incapable of a decent clip" Wizard all day long.

Nobody is comparing clips here though. People are comparing their thoughts on amps they’ve played. If this many people have the same impression of a specific amp, presumably that’s an impression a new user will have as well.
I love Wizard as an example, but I would give similar nuanced critique of them as well- every amp has drawbacks, and it’s good to know about them before spending thousands of dollars.

I really, really like the ENGL Artist. It's not exactly a metal amp, but it's perfect for my punk band, and it would be perfect for anything hard rock or glam sounding as well.

I vastly prefer having the separate master volumes and gain boost footswitchable to having 453 different eq sections, as well. I think it's a really well designed amp.

My small complaint with the Artist was it needed a little more gain on tap without having to rely on an OD/Boost. Not a deal killer for some but I do prefer to get all the gain from the amp without anything external. Still plenty of gain on tap but I needed a more. Also would have liked a Resonance control. I haven't ruled out giving one another go again though. Nearly bought the Blackmore model a few months back from one of the rig talkers here was selling, it was a helluva deal.

Yeah I don't mind the level of gain for my use case. Like I said, it's great for punk, hard rock, glam, but it's not a metal amp.

I don't mind using a boost if needed, so it isn't a deal breaker for me. I am always running a handful of pedals anyways - at the very least a wah, tuner, gate, and delay, so an overdrive pedal isn't an issue for me.

At least with my cabinets I've never felt the need for a resonance control - I am using it in a full band context though, so gobs of low end isn't really what I'm looking for anyways.

The blackmore is great sounding as well, but it's been a good long while since I played it so perhaps my memory is colored by nostalgia.
