For sure. One of the original POD 2.0 amp models was based on the X88R, IIRC... "Line 6 Modern High gain" amp model, that was featured in the 2.0 and X3, but not in the XT...I really like the SLO patches and V30 4x12 on the old line 6 pod software, I never used a bean but their interface with the pod software and it actually sounded quite good
They needed a ton of tweaking, as you say, but you can wrangle some good tones out of it!
I made many miles on a Digitech Genesis 3 and a Boss GT-3 from around 1998 up to 2005, and got my Savage 60 around that time too, so I phased out the digital stuff, since I wanted more than what those two could give me.
Then with the X3, and some of the new amp models AND finally being able to create some good break-up tones (like the surf tone I used) it was useable again and it's a nice thing to have around for recording.
Amp models used for the rhythm guitars were '2002 Criminal' (5150 II), Line6 Purge (modded Marshall JMP1) and 1st lead was an SLO100.
Surf tones were a Dual Showman model.
That tone in your Forever... track is really clear and nice too.
