The EG5 Rocks!!!!!

EG5 arrived today. I was worried with all the talk about bright tones and an edge to the sound.

I plugged her in and still worried...started playing through my B'Man in anticipation of stepping on 3! Then I did it, stepped over to the EG5 with all EQ pointing north or noon...with maybe a touch of treble backed off.
I CAN'T MAKE THIS MODULE SOUND BAD. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was floored form the first chord. I can't stop playing this thing. I only had it on low power at low volume because it is late, but wow! Man, amazing.

I played my PRS CE-22 through for a while. My PRS has a nice taper to the volume pot and a treble bleed that really helps retain clarity and man rolling back to about 5 I was kicking out AC/DC, wind it up to 10 and kicking out Alice in Chains or Metallica. I think it is very versatile and just sounds more articulate than the MHG, tighter, focused, more punchy or something. I played around with the EQ and boosts and couldn't get it to sound bad. She smokes! Leads are smooth, yet cutting! Seriously versatile.

With the B'man and EG5 I could cover a whole night of covers form clean to mean, from classic rock, blues to metal.

WISH I had this in my previous band. I would have torn up the joint! :lol: :LOL:

Trying a pedal is still not out of the question becauser you still have to share an EQ and I like a very mid heavy lead with less highs.......but only time will tell. :thumbsup:

The pedal idea was mostly in thinking for other mods like the SL or SL2 where I would want the two different channels for different types of tones. I like John's use of an EQ up front.

Man, love this module! I am using the 5881s right now biased at 34 and 35. I am going to take EL34s to the next jam to compare.

Haha! Keep in mind I tried the 5881s with the MHG and thought is was scooped and harsh. Different story now.

How are the 5881s with other modules like the SL2?

Incredible. Kills with the Bman too.

Sounds like we have a winner!!!!Wait till he trips the volume up on that thing,He's gonna have to change his undies :hys:

MAN, I wish I was still in my old band for one more day! We played original modern heavy rock and they were always telling me to turn up with the MHG although they loved my tone. I am looking at the EG3/4 or SL2 as the next module so hopefully the 5881s work well with those. Jas, I have those EL34s I'll try as well. Thanks bro.

You know, it is basically like taking the MHG and making it better. I can still get a lot of the same tones as the MHG, but more refined and focused, better detail. They did such a good job, I am wondering if they will continue to refine other models. Amazing.

T/D = SRV to The Edge
DLX = My Fav for the clean to the light Grit (from the Police to the Edge)
VX = Beatles/ Stones / Edge / Queen / Petty / George Harrison
COD = Modern Power Pop Music/ Rush (in the 80's) / Steve Lukather / Jeff Beck / Edge / Johnny Marr
BASSMAN= Zeppelin 1 / JET/ AC/DC a la Bon Scott/ Early Clapton/ Cream/ Allman Brothers
SL = Hendrix/ Zeppelin 2 / Zoso / AC/DC Back In Black/ 70's Clapton / Skynyrd / Pumpkins (Gish)
SL2 = Guns N Roses (Slash on Appetite For Destruction)/ Green Day / Blink 182 / Pumpkins (Siamese Deams) / Badmotorfinger
MHG = Alice In Chains/ Jane's Addiction (Nothing's Shocking)/ Zakk Wylde (the good stuff)/ Motley Crue Dr. Feelgood / Weezer / Foo Fighters / Superunknown
EG3/4 = ANYTHING and EVERYTHING thick and creamy -(my overall "Best In Show" module for ALL the modern rock stuff - a superior tone all over the hard rock map) :rock:
EG5 = VH 1978 - 1984/ Dokken/ Randy Rhoades / George Michael / Pet Shop Boys... just kidding :lol: :LOL:
ERECT = Nu Metal/ Detuned Riffs / Metallica (Black album on)

This is a great tool thanks!

As for the EG5. I notice you show Van Halen only in the Roth years which I guess is basically the brown sound.

Would the EG5 cover the Sammy era as well? Or should I be thinking of a different module?

There's another amazing module that doesn't get enough lovin' on the boards but is also in one of the heads in my live rig! Yeah baby! Yeah!!! The EG3 is sort of like a browner less aggressive EG5 to my ears. Less sizzle, but still very very rich and thick and cho-co-lit.

I agree John. I loves me EG3! :worship: It gets no love .. :aww:

Don't know what I would get next - EG3/4 or SL2. I want both, plus a T/D! I also hope they make that super Mesa (Mark series) hehehe...

I'd get either a SL2 or T/D. The EG3/4 is great, but I think it doesn't have a lot of differences except being a tad darker than the SL2. I played them side by side in my Mod50, and I came to the conclusion I didn't need both. But that's me. The T/D is such an awesome module, I'd highly recommend it!
