If you are using T/D, BMan, or Vx, you should be able to get great mid-gain from channel B of that module. Then, use channel A of MHG for high gain rhythm and channel B with more gain and volume for leads. That really should do it Id think.
Is it just that you dont want to use up a whole channel just for leads?
As for cut, go with your ears. If you and your buddy are playing live with MHG and cutting fine, dont let us tell you otherwise. It didnt work for me, but that doesnt mean it wont necessarily work for you.
Thanks Matt! I have the BMan and MHG and your description is exactly how I use the amp! I love it but just get scared with all the talk of not cutting. Again, I used it live once and it went well. I'll wait till I have a problem before I make a move. Hehehe...
I just want more modules and more tones!!!!!!! LOL! I'll deal with the boost if I need it....LOL.
Thanks bro.
It sounds like you suffer from the same thing I suffer from. The "Spend too much time on forums and not enough time ROCKING" syndrome. You can sit here and get all worked about the things other people say on the internet, or you can go out and use those ears! It already sounds like you said the MHG sounds sick, and if no one had ever breathed a word of it having issues cutting through then this wouldnt be an issue correct? The biggest thing ive learned is the you have to use your ears and not take so seriously the different opinions that other people with very different needs have. There are people out there that will have you believe the Vintage 30's will always make you sound like you're playing through a half-cocked wah and others that all Mesa amps are muddy. Someone you plays Scorpions or Lynch could easily think that the MHG dosent cut through and sounds "muddy" just because they would be used to or prefer more high mid and treble oriented distortion. I personally prefer warmer tones, which is why I dont like the EG5 as much as something like the MHG or COD. So strap on that guitar and feel blessed that you have one of the greatest amps in the world!
Sounds like you and i prefer similar tones. I just remember watching a badn use my Mod50 at a gig and being in complete awe of the tone swith the MHG. The tone just filled the stage with so much warmth and thickness it was insane. That is what I love. It sounded huge....very big in the mix! Other amps on stage were a small Marshall combo and large Fender Twin.
A few other guys I know on the board also much prefer these warmer, darker modules. I may get the EG3/4 next but I would need a boost of some sort for leads since I play heavy styles and using channel B for heavy would leave me lacking for solos.
I also want the SL2. Can the COD do high gain?
I may try my delay in the serial loop. If it works.....I'll put an EQ in the loop. I still wander if the Keely Katana would be enough for a nice lead coost out front.
