Rhythms on channel A, leads on B. I dont need to have different levels of high gain. Then, with module slot 1, I run a BMan which gives me awesome cleans on channel A and great mid-gain grind on channel B.
SL2 has enough gain on channel A. It can do Appetite for Destruction no problem. How much gain do you need?
Rich, you sound like a great candidate for an E2. You need more than 2 modules for what you want to do. Get yourself one of those with an EG3/4 and a COD. Then, you'll have more tones at your feet than you'll know what to do with!
For gain, I need from Led Zep to Ozzy to Tool and Alice in Chains.
Dude, it depends on how close you really need to get to all of those tones. I mean, for Ozzy you want SL2. For AiC its more complicated....SL2 for Facelift, E-Rect for Dirt, and MHG/EG5 for Tripod. And then for Cantrell's solo stuff, probably SL2. For Tool you want either E-Rect or MHG/EG5. But even that isnt going to do it exactly because Adam Jones uses Marshall SuperBass and a Diezel VH4 and nothing from Egnater does those exactly. Plus, even if they did are you going to use a late 70s Les Paul when playing the Tool stuff and a G&L Rampage for the AiC stuff??? You see what Im getting at? Its not just the modules. Its guitars, pickups, etc.
Im not saying dont own all the modules to get different tones. By all means Im not saying that. I own many modules because I like to change it up. But do you need all those tones to be as close as possible while playing live? If so, you'll need an E2. Otherwise, any one of them will do the job and still sound great. Maybe you wont sound exactly like Adam Jones or Jerry Cantrell or Zakk Wylde. Honestly, even if you had their rigs you wouldnt sound like them. You'll still sound like you. And thats A-OK. Pick the modules you like best. 99% of gear is for what we like to hear, not the audience. Like Ive said before, they dont know what you, Cantrell, Jones, or Wylde are playing and they dont care. As long as you play the songs like they like, they're fine. Its up you to figure out what tone YOU like.
