Many drag performances are very sexual for sure, but those are late at night in bars and clubs.

The same could be said for many performances.

Think about all of the types of performances out there, how many of them do you feel could not be done in a manner appropriate for kids?

Music? Dance, Sports, Comedy, Theater, etc?
it's grooming, why else would they want to read to children? why is there a push from the left to allow prepubescent children and teens under 18 to have gender change surgery, and to hide things from parents/legal guardians?

they're not volunteering to entertain senior citizens in nursing homes!

People dress up as a lot of things. Cosplay is huge. Rockstars dress up to perform. Not many drag queens are in drag for their day to day lives, only when they “dress up” for show
We get that… and no problems from me… it’s just why the push to read with kids? Someone else said it earlier but nobody cared until storytime.

I honestly think it became a problem then because people saw children as an excuse to voice their opinions on something they don’t like. Of course that doesn’t speak for everyone, but I truly believe that is why it has become such a big deal. People do the same thing with gun violence. It’s a “safe space” of sorts to voice opinions.

I also think of this, how many “drag queens” are involved with this story time program? I have no idea, I’d bet like a dozen. There are thousands of people that do drag out there though. I’m simply not willing to believe that a handful of dudes doing drag came up with a program to read to children for any other reason to read to children. And some of them may very well be sketchy. But ya know what, I’ve come off across all kinds of clowns and magicians and balloon animal dudes that are sketchy as fuck.
Its not unique to any one group of people, that’s the crux of it for me.

I’ll add to it that if the stories they read have the message of just being yourself and doing whatever you want, I am all for that. Kids deserve to be happy

Drag has nothing to do with gender affirming surgery though. If anything it is the exact opposite.

We have never been to a performance, but my children have certainly been exposed to drag on TV. Explaining it to them was very simple.
compare that to, from your example, a Jewish reading hour and a Catholic reading hour. If your young kid came home from that and asked why there are different religions and does that mean some are right and some are wrong, don't you think that would be a much tougher discussion than why a few dudes were dressed like girls? Adults on this very board can't handle talking about religion in such a matter.
It's interesting that you contrasted drag storytime with a religion analogy. A huge problem with secular society is that it's self-righteous adherents view their morality as some kind of neutral, unquestionable, self-evident standard, instead of a competing moral system that some people might not want. While religious communities — at least for the most part — just want to practice their faith unmolested, including how they raise their children and what values they teach them.

I fully support people deciding for themselves how to live their lives and to choose their own values, secular or religious. To me the problem is the desire to impose these views and values on others.

it starts with grooming, creating confusion in young children, etc.

^we definitely agree to disagree

I disagree. It became a problem when children were exposed to it. Going "Drag" is an adult concept meant for mature adults.

I'm sure it is a lot more than a dozen. A dozen in L.A. maybe but it has been shown to be growing across America. And I don't believe that a handful of dudes came up with a program. They were asked to come to the school by parents and teachers (I am assuming). Which is the other half of this problem. The sketchy clowns, magicians and balloon dudes are there for sure but there is no sexual element in there "performance". Also, I realize that drag people are not in drag all day long (at least most of them) and that it is for a performance. I just don't feel that those performances should be in front of children. And just "doing whatever you want" is not always right. As I raise my children, I want them to learn what is appropriate and what is not appropriate. There are other ways to teach kids to be happy and 'just doing whatever you want' is not part of that. At least not my immediate family.

Gender 'affirming' surgery is just a fancy way of saying gender mutilation to change the parts of your body to fit what is going on in your mind. A man who wants to dress up as a woman and talk and dance like a woman is a lot closer to that same mind then you want to believe.

I only compared it ti religion because the post I was responding to mentioned a hypothetical “religious” story hour and also mentioned having to explain drag to children.

I dunno man. I know a lot of dudes that do drag, and not one of them thought they were actually a women. I’m sure there are some, but I don’t think it’s common.

But even if they did, I do not think for a second it makes them any more predisposed to pedophilia, nor do I think they have any less of a right to be around children, and try to enrich their lives in a way they see fit.

FYI - I wasn't trying to indicate that "Jewish Story Hour" would be religious necessarily. I was trying to draw a comparison to what I thought the goal of the '_______ story hour' was all about. Educating kids and making certain groups of people seem less threatening. To teach inclusivity. Is that not what Drag Queen Story Hour is all about?

Sure, part of it is certainly to teach inclusivity and being yourself. None of that is a bad thing unless you have a personal prejudice against drag, or find it “threatening” to begin with.
I do not
