Well All My Gear May Be Destroyed...

I live in the heart of Pacific Palisades, CA and half the town is on fire as I write this. Most of all my favorite guitars were left under an emergency evacuation (I couldn't get to my home before the fire department shut down the area). I suspect I won't know if my house burned down until tomorrow. I'm safe in a hotel in the South Bay, grateful to be alive...Sometimes you just have to live in acceptance I guess.
So sorry for what you and the residents of California are going through…😥

Fuck you.
You are an angry little person aren't you? Did that sand in your vagina turn to shards of glass? I can see how that would make you upset.

Different thread and different topic. I'll refine my previous statement. In this thread no one was trying to kick Californians while their down.

Just the asshole? Why just that part?

I imagine if someone had the balls to show up in LA and make fun of folks that just went thru the fires they wouldn't make it out alive asshole included.

as someone who doesent lean heavily one way or the other, its crazy to me how hyperpolitical people can get that if one side says "dont get on that ship, a storm is coming and you will no doubt sink", they get on the ship anyway just to go against the other side, end up sinking and being saved by the side that warned against, and then instead of saying "they were right on this one", they say fuck them and hop on another ship and do the same thing again. i dont get it

You're beneath contempt. Again, fuck you. Invoking St. Ignora. Bye bye, asshole.

I wanted to provide you all with a quick update. I have confirmation that my home was essentially UNTOUCHED by the fires. Most (see orange color coding below) of the surrounding neighborhoods are completely destroyed. I'm incredibly grateful to all of you that provided thoughts, prayers, wishes and words of support. THANK YOU.

We were looking at the destruction last night and I thought about your place. That is basically a miracle that your home survived. Absolutely insane! I am so glad man. My wife and I were talking about it all and about how people on the forum here were offering moral support and even gear. Really cool to see that. Again, glad you made it out alright!

When the chips are down I'll take a less reliable grid and lower taxes. I watched people who KNEW that storm was coming and waited until after work the day of to try and find a loaf of bread. While I had sympathy for them it's pretty short sighted to take power and water for granted and assume staple items will remain available regardless of where you live when severe weather events are happening. Besides all that, TX is so large and the current influx of new people so large it's not possible to really have reliable infrastructure. The same goes for the roadways. Population growth exceeded all the estimates of planners so even when they finish the Austin area I-35 flyovers it's still gonna be a mess as usual.
True, everything is always too little too late here. But there's no good reason why we shouldn't be on the US power grid by now. It's just silly. Especially as incompetently ours is run.

I have pretty much come to count on losing water service about 10 times per year and then once it comes back online it's 3 days of boil water notice. Either we get freezing storms and they kill service, someone from aqua tx breaks a line making improvements or shuts it down replacing equipment, someone breaks it improving their property, they break it working on the roadway, or water co equipment failure. Last breakage was the cable company attempting to lay line. I KNEW they was gonna brea itk. Sure enough. My neighbor went bonkers on the crew, that was entertaining tho, lol.

I made it through that '21 storm with a woodstove and a 100 gallon feed trough. I had maybe five gallons left when the storm ended. A few weeks later I installed a 1250 gal norwesco rainwater tank, bought a generator, and then installed a gutter to feed to the tank. I also have a 5 gallon stock pot for boiling water. I have ZERO faith in anything grid-tied here and have come to accept it as a fact of life. For all intents and purposes TX has no infrastructure of any kind save for the chainsaw in my hand and the chickens in my coop. Rant off.
