What Would Y'all Want for Your Birthday?

I'm on the other side of your dilemma, I have a fast approaching major birthday and NFI what I want despite much questioning from the wife and family.
I don't have any real good answer for you because I have no idea wtf I want. I hate parties and being the centre of any attention, and I'm prob a similar age range.
I have everything I need/want... a happy and healthy family (which keeps me wishing for Vultures suggestion too much) and loads of toys (guitar gear), everything else seems a bit frivolous. (perhaps a Friedman Phil X for sale locally... but I don't NEED it and she would kill me... and I gotta quit the GAS.)

Best idea I can prob think of is some kind of special experience, something we can share as a family to remember the day forever. In the past I've done things like RaceCar hot laps, Rally-Car drives, Skydives & Bridgeclimbs. All are more memorable than trinkets I can buy myself, because they were there to share the day.
I think I'm going with just a nice family dinner out on the town and a killer Cheesecake for dessert and I trust the Missus will come up with something good as always.

I'll keep an eye on the thread to see how you go though. Good luck! :)

Man, it’s nearly impossible to guess what someone you don’t know would like as a birthday gift. There is the old standby, which has been mentioned in this thread. I’m always happy with that, but it’s clearly not what you’re asking for.

Pappy Van Winkle is a ridiculously good and ridiculously expensive bottle of bourbon. Lots of excellent and expensive bottles of scotch too. If that’s something he’s into. Maybe a 5 day class at Gunsite. Or Thunder Ranch. Or one of Travis Haley’s classes. If he doesn’t have an HK MP5 he definitely wants one because clearly he’s not gay 🤣.

My guess is he has everything he wants already. He’d probably be happy spending a nice day with his lovely wife. 😉

Well, he's quiet, stern, and picky. Basically only talks when he has something to say.
Finds most things in life overrated and is probably into the same kinda thing most people in their 100s are into.

He was a Marine Sniper and Navy Special Operations/Intelligence for 20 years.
Seems not much interested in beaches or large bodies of water anymore.
Maybe give him a set of Warhammer 40k miniatures? That he can assemble and paint. Or any other type of assembleable miniature of cars for example.

If he is into knives and stuff, may look for a cool knife from a reputable brand, or some high end wet stone/set of wetstones.

Sky is the limit.

Chris Reeves Sebenza, Marfione signature Microtech OTF, Benchmade Infidel. All solid choices.

If you want to go ultra-extra-ultimate exclusive knife stuff, this dude does some remarkable job.

Mine are only 4 and 6. I can’t even imagine tjat yet. Although I can also see how they would become so annoying by young adult age it has to happen 😂. As long as they come to visit often!
Funny, as I can't imagine having a 4 and 6 yr old at this point in my life
But those are such fun ages. Still innocent kids but learning the ways of the world.
My oldest leaving was definitely a bit a reprieve because like his dad, he was a bit of rebel.
He ended up getting a 5yr Architecture Masters from KU and now in Denver so very proud dad I am.
My middle boy is relatively close to us. He is a Civil Engineer, and the most like me.
My youngest is the Youtuber and he lives in LA now. Just visited and left last night. Wife and I were so proud as he cleaned up his room and bathroom to the point you'd never know he was here. Very respectful and mindful. Love them all.

Lisa, back on topic, another idea is one of these surprise camping trips (I forget some of the company names) but you fill out some basic information and then you don't find out where you are going until the last minute. Our friends did it and loved it. It is on our bucketlist.

Edit: It was called On A Whym.

I can see why you are proud. You’ve done well there mate. Also goes to show I should never judge a person by their username! 😂

My Husband's Birthday is in about a month and want to get him something special, but he's been quiet on wants. So, I really have no hints or clues for this year. Kids aren't really any help as they're not around much these days. Don't really want to get him anything music gear related since he's kinda wanting to get rid of a few pieces of his unused gear anyways, but am open to it mostly in the hopes that mods think it's on topic and this thread doesn't end up in OTC. :ROFLMAO: It would be cool to get some ideas of something unique and/or different. Trying to plan ahead in case of shipping or appointments or whatevs. Thanks for y'all's input! ❤️
Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

My son told me that he was serious about the airplane thing, but not going to be ordering an airplane kit or anything like that.
Am looking at flight schools for both of them to take courses at over the summer, but looks like I will need to involve him on as it's not a straightforward process and they will have to devote a few days a week to it. Still open to other ideas of things. Thanks y'all for the input so far! ❤️

Did you list what his hobbies or interests are? I think I missed it?

My nephew is doing that. He is 15. Wants to fly commercially. He has the plane identifier app. Kind of like the Cruise Ship Mapper app.

It is strewn through-out the thread. Like a puzzle. :dunno:

I saw guns, guitars, hunting, spending time with family? :dunno:

He likes antique/vintage stuff.
Not like antique road show, but motorcycles, cars, watches, weapons, tools, leathers, etc...
Nothing fancy (like that knife posted earlier), but still high end/quality/old versions of things.
Dan said it best on the first page, which is why I asked y'all for unique or out of the box ideas.
When our son moves out, am thinking of possibly getting us horses to devote time to, but not rn.

is he working on any cars? That is fun to do with your son, it's one of my favorite activities. Damn though, with that many options, you are wide open for choices! Personally, I would pick something that both your son and your husband are interested in, especially if he's leaving the coup. My son is leaving this year, and I'm sick about it.

He has a first year Mustang, an FJ40, like half a dozen 60s/70s cafe racer like bikes, some other motorcycles, him and our Son have been working on my 1961 Coupe DeVille the past few years, and just bought our Daughter a 60s Ford Van for her band that they're putting a new diesel engine in and doing a bunch of mods to it. I'm 100% confident on knowing not to buy him tools though. Have made that mistake in the past.

yeah, my bro in law(rip) owned a junkyard for 40 years. I learned the first Christmas not to get him tools. I ended up working for him during summers in my teens, and he kept the damn crappy tool I got him, lol.

so honestly, cars are probably becoming "work" at this point, judging by the projects. A break would probably be appreciated.

Not really work for him.
He rarely relaxes and loves to keep busy which is the only reason he's not retired.
Energizer bunny with a fission reactor. 🐇

sounds just like by bro in law. Working was the only time he seemed really happy. He had all kinds of properties that he liked to actually take care of, in addition to running a business. That in addition to hosting clam/shrimp/oyster frys every year. He had a bar that he bought just to have parties for his friends, lol, full industrial kitchen and all!

Than anything is game. A sick part for the car would give your son and husband something to work on for months. Forced induction? :p

Edit: make sure you know the engine, and find out if they are turbo or supercharger camp.
