Why can't Akira Takasaki use an amp as cool as what we have?

This thread is a joke thread right???

JVM's are really great amps IMO...

I think it is just a cry for help from Akira. He's lost. He's so removed from what is necessary for a world renown recording and touring guitar hero to use on stage. I knew that some of us with our vast experience could help him. I started this thread in the hopes that one of us could show Akira that he can't be happy with the tone from an amp that you can just drive down to the corner and buy. I live in LA. There are more Guitar Centers here than 7-11's. You can buy a JVM on every corner.

Sure, some of you may be duped into thinking he is getting a great tone on this. But it's not that his tone is great, it's that we feel sorry for him and our sympathy is filling in the blanks aurally where the JVM is lacking. It has to be lacking right? They're only like $1200 used. A guy brought one into my store and I put on latex gloves before testing it out. I can't touch one of those and then go home and touch my Mojave. Who knows what sort of germs I may introduce into my studio.

Yes... A cry for help

Umm.. Well alrighty then!

lol...

Who the fuck do you work for Mojave, 7-11, GC Akira or a studio make up your mind and go sell some CD's!

If I worked for Akira I would teach him a thing or two about tone. I would teach him how to write classic riffs that nerds (who me?) use to test out amp tones 25 years later. I would teach him how to solo in a way that would make him a guitar hero. I would teach him about Japanese language, history and culture. I would teach him the Chubtone way of using chopsticks with a little rubber band on top, not the noob way he probably uses them. I would teach him where he could find the best orange chicken in Tokyo.

That kid needs my help. I can't just stand idly by and watch him flounder like that through that amp. You guys may like to laugh and gawk, but that's not my nature.

The sarcasm in this thread is evident......atleast to some. ;)

Go ahead, mock me if you must.

PS. My kids are in martial arts 4 days a week and have been for years in the fear that they develop dads sarcasm and his Liliputian height.

This is cracking me up because I've seen enough of you guys so high on Cameron, Friedman or Fortin that to suddenly be ever so humble about gear required to rock is fucking hilarious in itself. Self deprecation though is an awesome trait.

I thought the tone in the video was OK, not amazing. So I can't jump on this awesome satirical crazy train just yet. I can't figure if I like the JVM or not. I've played it when it sounds OK but often it has a harsh top end. I hear that n this vid. I'd rather spend the 1K for a used JVM on a 2203 and pedalize that fucker. But no boutique, fairy dusted Klon destroyer, no. $30-40 Boss/MXR will do.

I have no feeling on this either way other than digging the comedic value of this. That said he still has his Roger Mayer power amps in that rack so I dunno whether whatever is happening to the guitar signal-good, bad or indifferent is the JVM...since he used to use pre-amps with whatever heads up there for show. Including some serious low rent stuff like Pro-Gap, etc...

On the last USA tour they played a tiny club in Detroit, easy to get right up to the stage...Boss GT-8 into a DSL and a couple 1960 cabs....looked like he was getting most of the tone from the Boss. He plays very stupid LOUD.

he doesn't play boogies

Except during the times where he used Mesa/Boogies. :D

That was around the time the MKIII was in production, I believe?
I remember reading an interview where he even explained the differences between Celestions (top) and EVMs (bottom of cab)

How do you know that JVM isn't modded??!

because he wouldn't have had it back yet

LOL so true. I bet Cameron has had one of his old Marshalls since Thunder in the East came out. Yeah....I said it ;)

you would think guys like akira and gilbert would get on these forums to find out what real tone is and to learn how crappy their gear is. I think they could also learn something from us about playing with "feel." i'll cut rhoads some slack because he can't be present, but man, his tone sssssucked.

There was a thread on TGP where all the Dumble idiots were trashing Eric Johnson's tone when Eric did a version of Politician. Fucking idiots, like Eric Johnson needs the opinions of those Robben Ford nutswingers.

Priceless.

Appearently the advantages of point-to-point wiring escapes japanese guitar players. Somebody send that poor bastard a Wizard or a Friedman.

some of the best players out there dont really have a clue or dont care to, I was shocked to see how little slash seemed to know about gear and tech stuff when I watched clips on the afd amp site etc, he still kicks ass, guess he is to busy playing gigs to read up on gear. Some great bands will just borrow the opening bands gear and still kick ass, I have to have my setup.

Collectors value aside, I'd take the JVM over any Marshall to date.
Same goes for the JMP1 into a good power amp.
Nothing wrong with either, and tons of pros use them all the time.
You can take all the BS PTP shit and stick it where it belongs
Good tone is good tone no matter what the source.

The tone in the OP is pretty good. I like it. Nothing wrong with that amp.
