Why can't Akira Takasaki use an amp as cool as what we have?

some of the best players out there dont really have a clue or dont care to, I was shocked to see how little slash seemed to know about gear and tech stuff when I watched clips on the afd amp site etc, he still kicks ass, guess he is to busy playing gigs to read up on gear. Some great bands will just borrow the opening bands gear and still kick ass, I have to have my setup.
Gear as a whole takes on a whole new thing when you're a Rock star, when the thing that matters is to be able to replace the stuff if and when it goes down easily. Imagine a guy using an amp from a boutique maker that turns out 20 amps a year...

As for all the cork sniffing...dealers and manufacturers world wide thank forums for the business. HA

It's obvious the dreads and the blue contacts have all thrown us for a loop! Who cares what anyone says the tune still flat out rocks 24 years later!

When it comes down to it, the WRITING matters more than the gear. If it's a good song and people like it, who the hell cares if the guy has NOS tubes or UK vs. Chinese Celestions....

Its probably all rental shit. His Dumble and his Two Rock is back in Japan.

Yes,
But the other guitar players with their arms folded won't decide if it's a good tone or not until they know where the Celestions are made. I love going to see someone and thinking their tone rules and then weaseling my way towards the stage to see what they are using. This happened to me not too long ago. I went to see local guitarist Kurt James with some friends play at this small club. Kurt James is the guy who replaced Paul Gilbert in Black Sheep and even more insanely replaced Yngwie in Steeler. Well little did I know, the gig this night was just them doing a bunch of old Steeler songs. I couldn't believe it when they opened with a Steeler tune. Anyways, he had an old Laney Supergroup head up there which is a very cool, vintage, plexi type amp for a fraction of the real plexi price. Even more of a slap in the face was that when I got closer, what looked like vintage strats were just old 80's era, made in Japan Squier strats. His pedalboard was a DOD YJM pedal (unmodded mind you, of course I had to get both of my YJM's modified), a Boss DD-2 or DD-3 and an old MXR Micro Chorus.

His tone was just ridiculously cool and the guy is a complete monster. So the entire night I got slapped in the face that this guy who destroys me on guitar and was getting extremely cool tone was doing it with gear that my snobbish self would think wasn't good enough for me to use.

I just love these reminders like this and posted this thread as a parody of myself as much as anyone else here.

^ And who don't buy cds/merch and probably won't come to another show :D

It's nice to see most people in this thread "get it." Great player with average "pro" gear and well-known songs etc. > than *any* forum-approved boutique gear played by a hack with no songwriting ability whatsoever. Gear is nice, I'm very grateful to get to play/own the gear I have. But... would anyone *really* care if I had to sell my rig and played a jvm/stock strat or lp and a boss delay? Nope, only the few guitarists in the back with their arms crossed :D

...still not gonna make that move unless I *have* to though :D

Here's a pic from when he played here and his tone was amazing! :)

It sounded so good I copied his settings.

One other reason why a lot of pro's use stock gear on tour is that it's easy to replace in any town if something goes wrong. Things break on tour or they can sometimes even get lost or delayed in transit. Gear gets a lot of wear and tear on the road too.

I'm tired of worrying if my tone is great out front on gigs...nobody cares much anyway, seriously. They only notice if it really sucks. They just want us to play the songs they like and not fuck up.
My bass player thinks I have a sickness with this 'tone' thing.

Just freakin' play!

No kidding man. I say this over and over... any of the amps talked about on this or other forums is MORE than adequate for gigging much less guys who play at home exclusively. To go through the merry-go-round is counter-productive to playing.

You don't need to have a $4k amp to get the job done.

For sure...I use the Electra Dyne one night, the Peters Polaris the next, the Vox AC15 with some nice expensive pedals....
My bass player says "you always sound good, I don't get it, why do you keep changing amps? Why do you own more that one amp anyway?"

A voice of reason....listen to it.
