Adam Jones Les Paul Standard - $2999

Yeah sort of weird to go with the Standard name. They kept the ebony board of the Custom, but opted for the mahogany neck like the Standard or current Custom instead of a maple neck like his Customs have. It's not really like a Standard as far as that goes, but it's not really like his Custom...

    NAD - Marshall 8100

I actually remember reading an article in some guitar mag years ago where he mentioned the 8200. He said he liked to dial in a little bit of the chorus into his tone.

    NAD - Marshall 8100

Yeah Meshuggah is a little harder to mosh in rhythm too lol. I went for Meshuggah and Slayer as well, though I liked Sick of it All’s album Scratch the Surface. It was clear that most the people were also there to see Meshuggah and especially Slayer. Sick of it All had the middle spot and there...

    NAD - Marshall 8100

I saw that tour at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, SC. It was a killer show. It was Meshuggah, Sick of it All, & Slayer. Meshuggah was super tight.

    The importance of hitting hard

For sure. What I mentioned is simply a tool in the tool box. It doesn’t negate the need to fully know one’s rig and the skill set necessary to play live and put on a good performance.

    The importance of hitting hard

I predominantly play metal as well. For me it's more of a woodshed tool, mainly for lead playing. If someone is prone to picking weak, it'll be really obvious so it can encourage them to dig in more for the notes to come out. On the other end of the spectrum, if someone is digging in too hard...

    The importance of hitting hard

I was more heavy handed earlier on, not to the point of banging stuff out of tune, but it was at the expense of some dynamic control and finesse when that was required. One thing that I've noticed that improves my overall dynamics and control is practicing unplugged. It may not be particularly...

    Opeth Appreciation...

Ghost Reveries is what got me into them. It's such a great album. I really gained an appreciation for Black Water Park with their Live at Albert Hall DVD. I wore that DVD out when it came out lol. Ghost Reveries and Black Water Park are my favorites from them.

    Cameron Aldrich clip.

Totally agree with 75's sounding awesome with the right set up. Admittedly, I was a "hater" back in the day haha. Then I heard them with the right amps and my tune changed. Now I have an old JCM800 slant cab with a quad it sounds killer. They seem to benefit from a little more volume than say a...

    experiences with insulation in 4x12?

With what your describing I’d first try moving the cab to a different spot in the room. Even if you’re close miking there is still a possibility you’re getting some reflections coming through and washing out the tone. You can also make a tent out of some blankets and another mic stand to help a...

Favorite old school thrash metal tones

Lol good point. Yeah I’d be curious to hear any rig details. It’s a great tone.

Favorite old school thrash metal tones

Not to derail since it’s not really old school, but do you have any idea what rig Heathen used on “The Evolution of Chaos” album? I always thought that was a great tone as well.

Once again, to insulate or not, 4X12 cabinets?

I tried it for a while in one of my cabs. I went for the Bogner approach and just put it on the back panel. I think it was like 1.5” or 2”. At first I liked it. It made the cab a little darker. It seemed a little tighter in some frequencies too. However, I noticed this came at the expensive of...

So how are the Ibanez J Customs compared to...

I had a J Custom years ago. Probably '07 or '08. It was definitely a high quality guitar. Nice fretwork, super stable neck, and overall great fit and finish. I ultimately sold because the neck was too flat for my tastes. I had a Suhr Modern not long after that. It's hard to say why, but the Suhr...

    StoneAge 4x12 opinions?

I had a 4x12 get jacked-up by UPS a year or so ago. It was standard new cab packing that you'd expect. It clearly had been dropped on one of the cab's joints. It was still in one piece, but the wood was dented in some spots at the joint. Honestly, it looked like it had been dropped from high or...
