I have a nice Fluke DMM, but don't know how to diagnose a bad pickup, when it sounds perfect at every volume other than with the volume knob all the way down. And if it's putting out with the volume all the way down, is that a bad pot or a bad pickup?
One guitar has single coils in the middle and neck position. The middle one is not wired up and I rarely use the neck one. I think this problem has always existed, but I don't play these guitars much, so it's been a while since I noticed. I'm going to put a new SD up in the single humbucker...
What causes this? Somehow this only happens in the two Strat-style guitars I have with pickguards. Both have 500k volume pots, no tone pots, both have humbuckers. Both sound fine at full and low volume (guitar volume knobs), but both make a loud humming or chirping noise when the volume pots...
It looks hokey when done, but it's always worked for me. I go buy a few of those dish packing boxes at Home Depot and slide one into the other. That let's you adjust length and then there still tons of room for padding/packing material.
Time to move some gear clutter. No complaints about any of these items. It’s just that my needs or tastes have changed. All prices are PP’ed and shipped to lower 48. I prefer Zelle and PP F&F, if we’ve done business before. I will update listing as things sell.

I'm a SD fan, but my main guitars are EBMM EVHs and Axis. A few of my Axis don't have the original DiMarzios, so I don't mind experimenting with other pups in those. Does SD make anything that's a direct drop-in in an Axis like DiMarzios? I don't know that I want to bother filing down the...
I thought LC's second album was pretty cool, really like the three hits from it and loved their appearance with Little Richard on Arsenio Hall, where they played Elvis is Dead. I worked security for a show on the Stones' Steel Wheels tour and got to meet everyone, and LC again when they came...
Totally concur. His place in R&R history is secure and was richly earned.
If you read Greg's book, and it's not his VH fanboi'ism, he makes a pretty clear case for Dave having been the driving force that took VH from playing backyard keggers to the next level and then the next several levels...
Huey is an alumnus of my prep school in NJ. I think he was class of '68. I was '89. So I was in school during his heyday on radio and MTV. There was always talk of their doing a show for the school, but it never materialized until about 10-12 yrs. ago. I was already living in AZ and didn't...
I saw them open for AC/DC on the Who Made Who tour at the Nassau Coliseum. I was really into them back then, still love them. I saw Akira at the ESP booth at NAMM a few years ago. There had to be 500 people in that room and it erupted when he walked in. It was nice to see him get that hero's...
The Gotohs on my EBMMs have been fine. The oldest one, a '94 EVH, started to pit after a while, but I gigged it hard for a long time, lots of sweat on there. The Korean-made FRs are way inferior to the OFRs. The steel is simply softer and will develop grooves in the saddles where the strings...
If money isn't an issue, you need 50 and 100w versions of NMV and MV Marshalls. I have them all and it's a first world problem, but I love walking into my man cave and a/b'ing a few and deciding which one will go to the next gig.
