So you've done the door to door gig as an "elder"?
I think thats the Jehovah's witnesses. Maybe the mormons have them too (?) I had one show up at my house after stumping the foot troops with a question about their modified version of the Bible that they say is not modified. He actually made my point for me before realizing it.
When they realized what had just happened, they left and never came back..

Technically every single version of the bible after the first translation from Hebrew, which is Greek, is modified.

It's mormons too. The door to door guys are elders. They are generally super pleasant people IME.

The witnesses are pleasant too but they will press you. I like a good bible debate so I am always ready to engage them. Once you've backed them into a corner scripturally and historically they don't returns because it would negatively affect the morale of their membership and they usually come two or three at a time.

Well I suppose thats technically true, but this particular spicey gem in their version undermines a core tenant of Christianity

Oh they are very nice, I was very nice too, but you are absolutely correct. Once they could not explain it away they asked if I would mind if they brought an elder over to clear it all up for me and he tried but could not get around what they had published in their own version and I respectfully called him out on it. He ultimately had no answer and gave up

I always put the charles taze russell, the founder of Jehovahs, was a freemason who is buried beneath a pyramid. The watchtower society incorrectly predicted the end times in the 70's and 90's. I used to know the exact year but I haven't interacted with them in twenty years.

The NT was all originally written into greek, for the record.

This is almost to a T my experience. They brought in the heavier hitters when the foot soldiers couldn't make headway. It's how they rope people, the scripturally unaware christian in. Then they get you working for them at a job. And a JW wife. Then it's life cause extricating yoorself from that will be a mess.

Probably for the better, its highly unlikely you will turn them. Its been about that since I spoke with them too. If you are not very grounded in your belief's, it can be dangerous. There is an element of truth there, but only for them to use against you.
They hit a reinforced concrete wall at our house

No doubt about it (y)

I don't mind talking to Christians about Christianity, interpretations, historical context or accuracy. It is interesting and I am somewhat familiar with it all since I was forced to go to a Lutheran school and church every Sunday and confirmation and all that shit. I got, err, forcibly removed from that school sometime in 7th or 8th grade though and that was that. Though I have read the bible many, many times.

Let's face it, a lot of the bible is like reading trig equations when you don't know or understand trig.
Interesting perspective but the church has theology to help you understand this stuff.
