Hockey will never be fully wussified. The fact that anyone who slashes another man with a stick tends to get swung on demonstrates that. I used to play pee-wee and bantam hockey up north. Kids were cruel and brutal as hell even at those levels.
I played hockey too. And when I was growing up, soccer was pretty brutal.
I don't know man. Goal tending without a helmet is ballsy as heck but there is a line between bravery and just being plain nuts, lol. I think a lot of hockey guys actually fall in the plain nuts category once they strap on those skates. I knew guys who played high level university league hockey. Good dudes but they ain't nobody's buddy once it's game on.
Wasn't speaking so much about goalies.
I understood, I just think the wussification you are talking about started at goalies wearing face masks. As one hockey great said, I'll paraphrase...something along the lines of "you don't need teeth to play hockey". LOL great saying.

I went to a Blackhawks-North Stars game as part of youth hockey in the late 80's. One of the guys on the hawks was still helmet less. There were multiple brawls. Great freaking game. The stars edged them out but it was pure excitement. The old met center was a great venue for watching games. Now it's the worthless Mall of America. Cheap seats near the back with a fairly up close view. $9 bucks at the time. I got some free tickets to a Tampa Bay Lightning game about ten years ago and had the same view from the middle section. The tickets said $100.50 on the stub!
I noticed when I lived up north where you are there was almost no high school football. They had lacrosse and soccer and shit but hardly any football. Always wondered why. More people and a bigger area than here, and we have football everywhere. Soccer has really come on here for awhile now. Some people bitch about saying that it takes kids away from other sports. I said it was their fault for not letting kids play. If you are denying kids an opportunity because you want to pick a team then don’t bitch about a low turnout because of a sport where every kid gets an opportunity to play. Arrogance is it’s own reward.I was more in to playing sports in highschool. Soccer mostly, but a couple years of track too when I was chasing girls.
Not so much musical theater, but I did grow an appreciation for opera after all my music theory classes.
