This is a 1998 Ernie Ball Musicman Axis EX.
You are probably saying to yourself, self, that looks exactly like an Eddie Van Halen model!
Well, that is because it basically is an Eddie Van Halen model. When Eddie left Ernie ball in 1995, Ernie ball continued to produce this guitar in Japan because they had leftover bodies and necks that were in production and they did not want to have to throw them in the dumpster. And the fact that these guitars were such hot sellers! so how they got around it, is, they took Eddie Van Halen’s signature off the head stock and called it the axis EX.
These were made in Japan, from 1996 through, I believe, 2000?
The cool thing about the axis EX, is that they left the toggle placement, exactly the same and the volume control exactly the same as the Evh model!
There were a lot of the EX models that made their way to the states when people realized that these guitars were still being produced in Japan, with the same high-quality components as the original EBMM Evh models!
And the other cool thing about the axis EX models is they used the same hardware and the same electronics as the Evh model!
These are really fun guitars and a great alternative to the original, which these days, will set you back a cool, $6000 or more! The axis EX is a great, budget friendly, kissing cousin to the original EBMM EVH!
