I know the progressive 'morality' is novel, but my point is that it is still the same mechanism in my view, IE using the state to enforce ones vision of right and wrong. The state of course does that, but in my view it would be better for prohibitions to be very basic and widely held, like assault, murder, theft, etc.
I knew you were going to say that first part, lol. Which is why I had noted in my original post that what progressives are doing is quite a bit different than people wanting to return to the traditions of their culture, which are more conservative than we have today. I'm not sure how that can be seen in a negative light unless you are a progressive. Those traditional prohibitions were widely held and still are to a degree, which is why some people don't want kids accessing porn.. Quite truthfully if people would just do as I'd say this would be a non issue because I don't believe in ID.

I support parents not allowing their kids to access porn. I just think they should be able to do that without creating laws that might infringe on privacy or anonymity or speech. And while I appreciate historic cultural norms here in the USA I'm not sure I'd want them reinstituted, and I'm not really a progressive. I think we all tend to imagine it was a more wholesome and functional time that probably was the case.

Maybe the solution is just making it illegal for anyone under 18 to possess a computer or other internet capable device. The adults still get their ID free porn site and the kids can play etch a sketch if they want a screen. Maybe they can draw porn on it.

Not a bad idea really given the generally-detrimental effects screen time and social media have on the youngsters. IMHO.

Well pRon is protected free speech as per SCOTUS rulings so IDK how Texas or anyone else can block it.
If the KKK can be protected to do their bullshit in public than people have the right to view sexy funtime stuff in private w/o ID or background checks.
Especially in this age of identity theft.

The great social experiment called the sexual revolution failed and now the people of TX want it gone. Kind of like abortion. It's gonna happen.

I'm all for legalizing drugs, porn, prostitution even. But we're talking about little kids here.

This where I think the disconnect comes from with some many debates about guns. Many of The biggest advocates for gun laws have children and school shootings in mind.

If a kid gets a hold of a gun it’s not the gun’s fault right? Probably the parent’s fault?
Same with a kid looking at porn. It’s easy to see what your kids are looking at online, and also easy to control what they are looking at online (on devices that you own or bought for them).

So when someone argues that we shouldn’t strengthen gun laws just because a bunch of kids are dying from them, it’s odd that some people are so quick to want to legislate other dangers.

I missed the part in the constitution that granted the inalienable right to beat off to a nice set of titties. Maybe it's the 2-1/2 ammendment.

I couldn't have said it any better. Exactly my thoughts. Permitting porn is an innovation, not a specifically enumerated right.

I wasn’t referring to the constitution though. I’m talking about common sense and logic.

Personally, if the best reason for keeping something in the constitution is because it’s already in the constitution, it’s maybe time to rethink it. It’s like a Kardashian who is famous for being famous

So, someone has nothing to do but worry about pornhub, when the world is teeting on the brink of extinction? Is that correct?

Except obscenity has been illegal for most of US history and vice squads were deployed to enforce the law. Ditto abortion. And homosexuality. It wasn't until the post modernists came along that any of that stuff was considered protected by the constitution. It's an innovation, not anything specifically enumerated.

Well I was actually making a joke, but okay. I don't think there needs to be legislation to ban/permit porn. People just need to take accountability for their own actions and parents shouldn't rely on the gov't to parent their kid. As long as it's not being readily handed out in schools and libraries I don't really give a crap if there's a hidden back room at Blockbuster for the adults.

I do find it amusing that you always claim to not be a leftist, but you're fine with dismantling the foundation of our country's government. Maybe change your username to Kamala-Gleesack.

Edit: Hairass-Gleesack sounds funnier.

Well I guess if your hand is down your pants it's not on the big red button to nuke the world. So yeah, it's kinda important don't you think?

Are there "obscenity" laws in the Constitution? I don't think so. I think we have a right to free speech, which includes the right to read and view what one desires. A puritanical impulse to control free people's behaviors and their pursuing happiness goes against the libertarian ethos of the Constitution.

I need to read the entire thread but I've always believed we need one (1) single age for all this shit. 18 - whatever. Cigs, alcohol, porn, sex changes, DL, draft status, etc, etc.

That said, I'm much in favor of States Rights so.....

Most 'kids' are getting their phones/internet access from their parents. I'm sure many parents are oblivious to what their kids can find on the internet. I'm also sure there are many ways to get around the restrictions placed on kids (Tik Tok comes to mind). And lots of sites say "Click here to confirm you are 18". That's a joke. I differ on the whole ID thing because I feel legal citizens should have valid ID's and they should be proud of their ID :dunno:
